SummaryPolice Officer - Lorain Hospital PRN (as needed). This position is responsible for enforcing established organizational safety and security policies and supporting a positive customer‑friendly, service‑oriented approach. This job operates in accordance with established International Association of Hospital Safety and Security Management (IAHSS) guidelines and best practices.
Responsibilities- Protects patients, visitors and employees by providing escorts, patrolling grounds, and eliminating environment of care safety hazards.
- Deters vandalism, theft and property abuse through routine patrols of hospital property including inside areas and all parking lots and decks.
- Enforces hospital policies (e.g., parking regulations, visitation policies, tobacco free/smoking policy).
- Monitors hospital activity on closed circuit television and responds to escalating situations requiring security involvement.
- Intervenes in patient, visitor and staff confrontations as appropriate.
- Advises dispatcher of duties performed and completes appropriate incident documentation.
- Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, alarm response, evacuation and disaster plans.
- Responds to emergency situations and hospital alarms as designated.
- Completes mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department competencies.
- Maintains applicable certification/licensure; completes IAHSS Basic Training Module within 90 days of hire.
- Remains on assigned post and ensures post and police vehicles are clean and free of non‑work-related material.
- Follows organizational policies and procedures with attention to attendance, confidentiality, dress code and .
- Maintains professional conduct while on duty.
- Accepts assignments from Police Department Management to meet operational needs.
- Inspires, motivates and models service‑oriented behavior.
- Fosters teamwork and partnerships with internal and external customers and community partners (e.g., Fire Department, law enforcement, EMS).
- Demonstrates self-governance and promotes professional growth and development.
- Participates in scheduled Emergency Management exercises and drills.
- Promotes stewardship of resources while maintaining or improving service quality.
- Communicates goals and actions to encourage employee feedback and ownership.
- Participates in data gathering and analysis to assess impact on organization-wide operations.
- Completes internal investigative reports timely with accurate information and proper grammar and spelling.
- Enforces Police Department policies and supports the Performance Improvement process.
- Participates in Environment of Care safety rounds and conducts safety inspections of equipment (e.g., panic and duress alarms, emergency call boxes).
- Participates in monthly fire safety drills; performs additional duties as assigned by the Manager.
- High School Diploma required.
- Current Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Certificate of Completion.
- Associate and/or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- IAHSS Basic Training and Certification for Healthcare Security Officer within one year of hire.
- Minimum 1–2 years on-the-job law enforcement/criminal justice/military training preferred.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license.
- Qualify with duty weapons as directed to maintain state and/or departmental requirements.
- Qualify with an ECD per department policy and procedure.
- AED-CPR training as per policy and procedure.
- Must comply with department requirements related to protective equipment, body cameras and body armor.

Familiar with LEADS and NCIC, and how to request service from a Police Agency. - Maintain current OPOTA status and take mandatory refresher classes.
