Summary of Essential

Job Responsibilities
  • Protect patients, visitors and employees by providing escorts, patrolling grounds, and eliminating environmental safety hazards.
  • Deters vandalism, theft and property abuse through routine patrols of all hospital property, including inside areas and all parking lots and decks.
  • Enforce hospital policies such as parking regulations, visitation policies, and tobacco‑free/smoking policy.
  • Monitor hospital activity on closed‑circuit television to detect escalating situations that may require security involvement.
  • Intervene in patient, visitor and/or staff confrontations as appropriate.
  • Advise dispatcher of duties performed and complete incident documentation.
  • Demonstrate understanding of emergency procedures, alarm response, evacuation and internal/external disaster plans.
  • Respond to emergency situations and hospital alarms as designated.
  • Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department‑specific competencies.
  • Maintain applicable certification/licensure, including completion of IAHSS Basic Training Module within 90 days post‑new hire.
  • Remain on assigned post and complete all post‑specific duties; ensure post and police vehicles are clean and free of non‑work materials.
  • Follow hospital policies and procedures with special attention to attendance, punctuality, confidentiality, dress code,  display and safety.
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times when on duty.

  • Investigate, research and analyze data to assess impact on organization/system‑wide or inter‑departmental operations.
  • Complete internal investigative reports timely with accurate information and proper grammar.
  • Adhere to Police Department policies and procedures and support the Performance Improvement process.
  • Participate in Environment of Care clinical and non‑clinical safety rounds and conduct monthly safety inspections for security‑related equipment.
  • Participate in monthly fire safety management drills and perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager.
Education
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Current Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) certificate of completion.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • I.A.H.S.S. Basic Training and Certification for Healthcare Security Officer within one year of hiring.
Experience
  • Minimum 1–2 years of law enforcement, criminal justice or military training preferred.
Essential Certifications
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license.
  • Successfully qualify with duty weapons as directed.
  • Successfully qualify with an ECD per Police Department policy.
  • Successfully complete AED‑CPR training as required.
Protective Equipment
  • Comply with Police Department requirements related to protective equipment, body cameras and body armor.
Required Knowledge and Skills Police Activities
  • Familiar with LEADS and NCIC computer functions and requesting these services from a police agency.
  • Maintain current OPOTA status and complete refresher and additional required classes.
  • Qualify with firearm as scheduled by the department.
  • Understand Police Officer responsibilities and liabilities.
  • Display good judgment and positive customer‑friendly behaviors.
  • Understand policy and procedure manual, especially use of force.
