Position Title:

DNA Technologist

Bode Technology, the leading provider of forensic DNA services, is seeking entry- level technologists to join our growing team at the Lorton, VA laboratory. The technologist positions support all areas of forensic operations including casework, databasing, and human identification. Description

The responsibilities of the Forensic DNA Technologist include processing casework, databasing and/or human identification samples for DNA to include sampling, DNA extraction, quantification, PCR and/or capillary electrophoresis.

Responsibilities
  • Successfully complete Bode’s internal training program to include written and verbal competency exam in addition to laboratory practical exam.
  • Conduct manual and/or automated robotic laboratory procedures for the processing of casework evidence and/or reference samples to include any or all of the following: sampling, DNA extraction, rtPCR quantification, PCR, capillary electrophoresis.
  • Testify in court as needed.
  • Meet or exceed quality and productivity expectations.
  • Follow all SOPs and accurately record all testing and processes in LIMS and other worksheets.
  • Maintain proficiency through bi-annual external proficiency tests.
  • Assist with quality control testing and laboratory stocking of reagents and consumables.
  • Perform laboratory and equipment maintenance and cleaning as assigned.
  • Administrative duties such as scanning of case file documentation.
  • Other laboratory support as assigned.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree in Biology, Forensics or other natural science; MS degree is preferred.
  • Excellent laboratory skills.
  • Ability to concentrate and produce results with 100% accuracy.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Excellent demonstrated project management skills and ability to consistently meet or exceed deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task required.
  • Works in and around sterile laboratory(s), laboratory equipment, chemicals/reagents.
  • Handles items with blood and other body fluids, exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
  • Works directly with evidence which may be sensitive in nature or may represent violent, criminal activity.
  • Periodic travel for continuing education or court testimony.
