Technical Writer, Cybersecurity
Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking an IT Tech Writer to support a mission-critical U.S. Army program. This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining high-quality technical documentation that supports operational readiness, system usability, and mission execution. The ideal candidate will have experience working in DoD or defense-related environments, collaborating directly with engineers, analysts, and military personnel to translate complex technical information into clear, accurate, and compliant documentation.

This role is fully on-site in Newington, VA and requires an active Top Secret w/ SCI eligibility security clearance.
- Develop, maintain, and update technical documentation including user manuals, system guides, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and other mission-critical documentation.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, analysts, and military personnel to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Identify documentation gaps and work cross-functionally to improve documentation quality, consistency, and operational effectiveness.
- Produce documentation that complies with DoD, Army, and organizational documentation standards and style guides.
- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Visio, and SharePoint to develop, edit, organize, and maintain technical documentation.
- Manage document version control, document lifecycle activities, and content organization within enterprise document management systems.
- Support multiple documentation projects simultaneously while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Contribute to documentation efforts supporting IT systems, cybersecurity initiatives, and enterprise infrastructure programs within a secure government environment.
- Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Information Technology, Computer Science, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of technical writing experience supporting IT, cybersecurity, defense, or other technical environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Visio, Adobe Acrobat, and SharePoint.
- Experience creating and maintaining technical manuals, user guides, SOPs, system documentation, and operational procedures.
- Familiarity with DoD and Army documentation standards, including MIL-STDs, style guides, and technical writing best practices.
- Strong understanding of document version control and document lifecycle management.
- Working knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, and cybersecurity concepts with the ability to accurately document complex technical systems.
- Excellent written, verbal, editing, formatting, and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience collaborating with engineers, technical teams, and military stakeholders.
- Active Top Secret (SCI Eligibility) security clearance.
- Desired:
- Experience supporting U.S. Army or other Department of Defense programs.
- Experience working within Agile software development environments.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles, enterprise IT infrastructure, and secure government systems.
- Experience documenting software development, cybersecurity, or enterprise technology initiatives.
- Salary Range: $95,000 - $115,000
