THIS IS A NON-PAID INTERNSHIP POSITION Hours & Time Commitment
This internship works part-time hours during normal City Hall hours between 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Internship work schedules are flexible and arranged between the Intern and the Finance Department. Applicants that are interested and available to a six (6) month commitment with the City may be given preference for this internship opportunity.
POSITIONThe Finance Intern is a member of the Finance Division. The position is responsible for a wide variety of clerical and customer service duties that require telephone skills, typing, computer operation, duplicating and filing. The position is also trained in the areas of Accounts Payable, Receivables, and Payroll.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Assist with the preparation of the Budget Standing Commission Agendas and postings.
- Type correspondence, memorandums, lists, etc.
- Answer phones and route call in a courteous and professional manner.
- Respond to inquiries from the public and other City staff.
- Maintain department filing system.
- Monitors and records all accounts receivable utilizing a computer terminal
- Orders supplies.
- Assist with the distribution of mail.
- Maintain and order supplies for the department.
- Prepares and maintains financial and accounting records
- Assist departments with purchasing information and account coding
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to use a computer and other modern business equipment (Windows XP; Microsoft Suite).
- Knowledge of modern office practices.
- Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
- Familiar with city government policies and practices.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and to deal courteously and effectively with City staff both over the telephone and in person.
- Knowledge of alphanumeric filing systems.
- ability to prepare reports and communicate information to city departments
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade (college associate degree is preferred) or any combination of training and experience that may provide the required knowledge, ability, and skill.
- Municipal Government experience is not required but is desirable.
