The Estimator / Project Manager is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and proposals for projects while also managing the full project from award through closeout. This role requires strong technical estimating skills, project management expertise, client communication, and the ability to balance cost accuracy with on-time, on-budget delivery.
Estimating Responsibilities- Review plans/walk scope, understand specifications, and bid documents to prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids; negotiate pricing and scope.
- Develop proposals that include description of scope, pricing, schedules, specifications and clarifications.
- Become proficient with estimating and takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam, Excel, company estimating programs and other industry-specific tools).
- Ensure estimates comply with company standards, client requirements, and applicable codes/regulations.
- Upon award, communicate project labor and equipment requirements with superintendent.
- Set up job files accurately placing all cost information correctly and accurately into Job information sheet for set up.
- Lead project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation after contract award.
- Coordinate with clients, subcontractors and internal teams to ensure successful project start, managing through completion.
- Track progress, improving productivity and mitigating risks.
- Submit timely progress reports and billing.
- Track scope changes and change orders.
- 3 – 5 years construction experience, specialty contracting, office or field.
- Familiar with construction drawings and takeoff software.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials, building practices and safety regulations.
- Valid driver’s license and ability at travel to job sites as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related fields.
- Experience in commercial or industrial construction.
- Detail oriented with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Ability to learn and comprehend new construction specialties or disciplines.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and projects simultaneously under deadlines.
- Collaborative team player who can also work independently.
- Ability to build relationships with customers/clients.
Office based with regular job site visits. Ability to walk job sites, climb stairs/ladders, and work in varying weather conditions as needed.
