What Will You Do
The Nuclear Material Control and Accountability Group (NMCA) is looking for an energetic, customer-focused professional to perform nuclear material accounting duties and responsibilities. As a Nuclear Material Accountant, you will serve in a mission‑essential role contributing to LANL's National Security and Science missions by supporting accountable nuclear material tracking to detect and deter theft or diversion. The successful candidate will be capable of learning and understanding Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, understanding radiological measurement concepts and principles, and possess exceptional critical thinking skills.
The candidate will also partner with team members and customers to assure accounting program compliance. Candidates with STEM degrees, accounting, and quality backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Job Requirements MC&A Specialist 1 ($72,800-$115,400)
- Demonstrated ability to understand complex data entry using procedures, generally accepted accounting principles, radiological measurement data to include use of proper units, algebraic formulas for sitewide rollup, and the accountable nuclear material structure (Material Type, Attractiveness Level, Category) prescribed in DOE O474.2A, Nuclear Material Control and Accountability.
- Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve data entry errors with team members and customer organizations.
- Demonstrated ability working in a high‑consequence field where errors can result in unplanned impacts to institutional/organizational mission.
- Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with team members, customers, and management.
Education/
Experience:
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience directly related to the occupation.
In addition to the MC&A Specialist 1 requirements, this level the key responsibilities are:
- Experience using sound technical judgement to solve simple‑to‑complex process problems that are directly relatable to nuclear material accounting process problems (e.g., data entry, book reconciliation, accounting calculation).
- Experience identifying process improvements, recommending technically based solutions and working collaboratively with team members, customers and management to implement improvements.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex technical or process information to non‑technical stakeholders in both written and oral formats.
Education/
Experience:
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience directly related to the occupation.
- Experience with Nuclear Material Control and Accountability in the DOE, NRC, or other Federal‑level environment.
- Experience working in a Conduct of Operations/Quality Assurance environment.
- Strong mathematical acumen.
- Exceptional ability to learn diverse skills and concepts.
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM, Business Management, Quality Assurance or related field.
