We are seeking an experienced Project Manager 3 / Construction Manager to lead and oversee construction project execution at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This role is responsible for the successful delivery of construction projects in a high‑hazard nuclear environment, ensuring safety, compliance, and operational excellence. The position requires strong leadership, technical construction expertise, and the ability to manage complex, multidisciplinary teams in a highly regulated setting.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage all aspects of construction project execution.
- Provide technical direction and administrative oversight for field construction activities, project teams, and site personnel.
- Ensure safety and security are fully integrated into all work activities, including stopping work when necessary.
- Review and manage budgets, forecasts, schedules, cost performance, construction specifications, drawings, project management, procurement, and project controls.
- Resolve issues related to staffing and contract/subcontract administration.
- Support development and review of project procedures and operational controls.
- Lead project planning activities including scheduling and resource planning.
- Staff and manage construction site teams, ensuring performance, quality, and technical adequacy.
- Monitor field execution and ensure adherence to procedures and safety standards.
- Serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM) as needed: cost and schedule management, variance analysis, corrective action planning.
- Present project updates, performance metrics, and issues to senior leadership.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, and high‑performance work environment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen (required for clearance eligibility).
- Typical 15+ years of experience in project management, construction, project controls or procurement.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing scope, schedule, and budget; change control and reporting processes.
- Proven ability to lead complex, multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with project planning tools and methodologies.
- Extensive knowledge of construction operations and quality, subcontract management, construction technologies, constructability reviews, cost and schedule analysis.
- Familiarity with facility construction and maintenance systems.
- Strong understanding of government compliance standards and environmental regulations.
- Experience working under nuclear quality standards (e.g., NQA-1) preferred.
- Commitment to safety and security in high-hazard environments.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to coach and mentor staff, build consensus, resolve conflicts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience presenting to senior leadership.
- Ability to identify and mitigate project risks, analyze complex problems, and implement solutions.
- Experience with root cause analysis.
- Background in high-hazard or secure facility operations.
- Familiarity with earned value management systems (EVMS) and control account management (CAM).
- DOE or National Laboratory environments.
- Nuclear facility construction projects.
- Work performed in high-hazard or secure facilities.
- Walking, kneeling, balancing.
