Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager 3 / Construction Manager to lead and oversee construction project execution at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This role is responsible for the successful delivery of construction projects in a high‑hazard nuclear environment, ensuring safety, compliance, and operational excellence. The position requires strong leadership, technical construction expertise, and the ability to manage complex, multidisciplinary teams in a highly regulated setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all aspects of construction project execution.
  • Provide technical direction and administrative oversight for field construction activities, project teams, and site personnel.
  • Ensure safety and security are fully integrated into all work activities, including stopping work when necessary.
  • Review and manage budgets, forecasts, schedules, cost performance, construction specifications, drawings, project management, procurement, and project controls.
  • Resolve issues related to staffing and contract/subcontract administration.
  • Support development and review of project procedures and operational controls.
  • Lead project planning activities including scheduling and resource planning.
  • Staff and manage construction site teams, ensuring performance, quality, and technical adequacy.
  • Monitor field execution and ensure adherence to procedures and safety standards.
  • Serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM) as needed: cost and schedule management, variance analysis, corrective action planning.
  • Present project updates, performance metrics, and issues to senior leadership.
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and high‑performance work environment.
Minimum Qualifications (Deal Breakers)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen (required for clearance eligibility).
Required Qualifications
  • Typical 15+ years of experience in project management, construction, project controls or procurement.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing scope, schedule, and budget; change control and reporting processes.
  • Proven ability to lead complex, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with project planning tools and methodologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction operations and quality, subcontract management, construction technologies, constructability reviews, cost and schedule analysis.
  • Familiarity with facility construction and maintenance systems.
  • Strong understanding of government compliance standards and environmental regulations.
  • Experience working under nuclear quality standards (e.g., NQA-1) preferred.
  • Commitment to safety and security in high-hazard environments.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to coach and mentor staff, build consensus, resolve conflicts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience presenting to senior leadership.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate project risks, analyze complex problems, and implement solutions.
  • Experience with root cause analysis.
  • Background in high-hazard or secure facility operations.
  • Familiarity with earned value management systems (EVMS) and control account management (CAM).

Compensation: $88.00 per hour
