Position: Learning Specialist 1 (Technical Training Team)

The Weapons Mission Services (WMS-DO) is seeking a highly skilled Learning Specialist to directly support training programs within the New Employee Training & Workforce Development Group (WMS-1). The primary core tasks of the position will support the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP), including deployed personnel working in the ALDWP facilities, with the implementation of live course instruction in a highly complex and fast‑paced work environment.

The Learning Specialist will report directly to the Technical Training Team First Line Manager (FLM) or NET Academy First Line Manager. The selected individual will perform day‑to‑day services for the respective team and will be a dedicated expert in the FMH and GBO programs.

Technical Training Team responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing Technical Trainer scheduling requests throughout multiple training facilities with competing resources
  • Research and assist with process improvements for Technical Training team with the conversion to electronic records
  • Organize, schedule and manage registration and logistics for ALDWP live courses
  • Course scheduling, including managing and implementing complex, overlapping schedules
  • Prepare and manage live course training materials (workbooks, pamphlets, supplies, etc.)
  • Assist with course management objectives in the UTrain
  • Organize and schedule participants for recertification and re‑qualification sessions with the FMH and GBO programs
  • Learning Management System Administration (training assignments, issuing credit, managing course registration, creating scheduled offerings, course management, running reports)

NET Academy Team responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide navigational guidance to a cohort of individuals, including getting to know LANL, following program schedule, and addressing basic new hire questions
  • Effectively utilize data from multiple applications to collate information to support customer service
  • Training Program implementation, administration, coordination, and planning
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Learning Management System Administration (issuing credit, managing course registration, course management, running reports)
What You Need

Minimum

Job Requirements:

  • Education and Experience:

    Position requires an Associate's Degree in a related field and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

  • Operational Functions:
    Demonstrated experience and knowledge of business activities in an operational environment, including familiarity with one or more of the following: program management, compliance practices, records management, training qualification programs.
  • Training-Related Expertise:
    • Experience executing training/education programs for a wide variety of target audiences.
    • Experience with managing complex and overlapping schedules.
    • Experience working with customers and stakeholders to assure live courses meet customer needs, regulatory drivers, and contractual requirements and providing guidance in interpreting regulations and policies to ensure compliance.
  • Computer Skills/Business Systems:
    Knowledge of business and operations systems and standard software applications (i.e. Microsoft and Adobe products). Ability to quickly learn and adapt to the use of LANL business systems (i.e. Oracle, UTrain, Issues Management, etc.). Ability to effectively manage multiple, complex and overlapping calendars.
  • Accountability:
    Experience working with confidential or proprietary information. Understanding of safety and security requirements to individual responsibility and as applicable to training activities.
