What You Will Do
The Product Realization and Reliability Office (PRRO) in Nuclear Production Operations consists of a multidisciplinary group of engineers and scientists that support plutonium programs (i.e., pit production, surveillance, research & development, and subcritical experiments) across the entire Nuclear Production Operations organization.
The PRRO is seeking experienced Systems Engineers to provide comprehensive engineering analysis support for all plutonium production activities. In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Detailed modeling and optimization of critical production processes including metal refining, melting, casting, heat treatment, forming, machining, and welding.
- Comprehensive analytical support for the design and development of production tooling, fixtures, and specialized process equipment.
- Tackling a wide range of complex problems, from simple hand calculations to highly sophisticated system-of-systems analyses.
- Completing and documenting all work within cost and schedule constraints.
- Presenting your findings for peer review and providing feedback on other engineer's work.
- Providing detailed analyses that will cover a wide range of difficult problems requiring solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organizational objectives.

What You Need MinimumJob Requirements
- Proficiency in applying fundamental techniques and engineering best practices
- Demonstrated experience in complex modeling and simulation (SysML, Sym Py, etc.)
- Ability to conduct, validate and interpret results of failure mode and effects analyses, fault tree analyses, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to document technical results in a formal method/format
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Strong presentation skills
- Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which requires US citizenship
- A Master's or PhD Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited institution
- Familiarity with Models Based Systems Engineering, SysML language is preferred.
- Proficient understanding of the systems engineering fundamentals
- Demonstrated experience in applying operations research techniques to describe and refine complex operations
- Understanding of validation and verification methods
- Proficiency utilizing Python, Mat Lab. Etc.
The work location for this position is fully onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position CommitmentRegular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
