What You Will Do:

Plutonium Infrastructure Engineering (PIE) develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of nuclear facility engineering capabilities to provide innovative solutions to enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security mission. We are seeking a Nuclear Facilities Engineering Manager 3 to support the Laboratory mission and assist Group Leaders and Division Leaders.

• Ensure that technical deliverables comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and standards.
• Assign qualified engineering resources as required to support projects being designed and implemented within the facility.
• Support engineering staff by providing on-site technical guidance for field, systems, and project engineering responsibilities.
• Ensure that all technical deliverables are developed in accordance with the LANL Conduct of Engineering (COE) policies and procedures.
• Ensure resolution of engineering assigned issues is completed on time and within the allocated budget.
• Participate in forecasting staffing requirements, developing and managing budgets, monitoring performance, and initiating personnel actions when necessary.
• Ensure that safety processes, policies and practices are followed by assigned personnel to support worker and facility safety.
• Provide leadership ensuring the nuclear engineering designs are delivered and meet the customer needs and expectations in a cost effective, safe, and compliant manner.
• Communicate with all levels of internal and external customers to define and recommend cross-organizational operational objectives.
• Assist the group leader in developing specific short-term and long-range plans and monitor progress to assure long-term objectives are attained and customer requirements are met.
• Ensure daily open communication with workers (including subcontractors) that promotes an environment where workers feel comfortable bringing errors and issues to management attention.
• Lead process improvement efforts to address procedural, policies, and work process changes. Seek opportunities to enhance effectiveness and efficiencies of policies and procedures in effect at LANL.

As a Nuclear Facilities Engineering Manager 3, you will assist the Group in operations and strategic direction by providing technical and administrative oversight to ensure compliance with nuclear facility requirements, conduct of engineering (CoE) and configuration management (CM) program requirements; ensuring that design, field, systems, project and discipline engineering personnel comply with applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, codes, and standards;

and providing Leadership in resolution of technical and personnel issues.

In addition, but not limited to, the incumbent will assist the Group Leader in developing staffing plans, in accordance with customer requirements and within budget constraints, perform recruiting and hiring activities to implement those plans, and develop staff through training, mentoring and qualification programs.

Central to this position, we are seeking a qualified and talented individual that has demonstrated Leadership and innovation in managing a multi-disciplined engineering organization.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience managing technical teams and interfacing with other engineering disciplines.

Knowledge and Experience

• This position will serve in a management role and provide expert knowledge and experience in engineering and administration for facility projects and on-going operations and maintenance within nuclear facilities is required. Specific knowledge and experience sought for includes:
• Experience leading a technical organization in support of nuclear facilities including operations, maintenance, systems engineering, safety basis, and projects to establish and continuously improve conduct of engineering implementation in support of reliable facility operations.
• Experience in successfully developing internal and external customer relationships achieving a customer satisfaction. Experience in negotiation with customers and support organizations and resolving conflicts.

• Experience in developing and implementing design related processes, configuration management, engineering document control, schedules, and cost estimates.
• Demonstrated experience managing schedules and leading multidisciplinary teams
• Working level experience and knowledge of DOE Orders and Standards and the LANL Engineering Standards Manual related to engineering in support of nuclear facility engineering, maintenance, projects, and operations.
