What You Will Do
The Integrated Weapons Experiments (J) Division, Dynamic Structure Design, Engineering, and Vessel Operations (J-2) Group is looking for a Designer to support the mission of Stockpile Stewardship for the Hydrodynamic and Subcritical Experiment Execution Support (HSEES) Program. The selected candidate will be responsible for various aspects of design using computer aided design (CAD) programs to produce designs, drawings, and layouts of unique components and systems, while applying sound engineering design principles, to support procurement of impulsively loaded, confinement vessel systems and components.
This position will be filled at either the Engineering Technologist Level 1 or Level 2, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (listed below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. The selected candidate will need to possess excellent teamwork skills to collaborate with engineers, technicians, drafters/designers, and program management. J-2 is a diverse group that enjoys a collegial work environment focused on creative problem solving, where everyones opinions and ideas are valued and considered.

The candidate is expected to develop further understanding of drawings and be able to interpret the various signs and symbols associated. They will assist in the design by creating/editing models, layouts and configurations under the direction of a senior designer and/or engineering staff and turn them into high detailed drawings.
The candidate will familiarize themselves with all sub-assemblies of the groups confinement vessels and will assist in preliminary review documentation preparation and prepare drawings for fabrication and assemblies.
Engineering Technologist 2 $94,500 - $154,600
In addition to level 1, as a Level 2 designer, the selected candidate will be point of contact for specific design packages for individual tests. They will be expected to contribute to the design by applying engineering and manufacturing principles, theories and concepts. This will include providing complete drawing packages of all hardware to the engineering team, supporting drawing checks, and interactions with vendors as needed.
