Position Overview

COMPA Industries is seeking Radiation Control Technicians (RCT Level 3 and Level
4)
to provide radiological protection support for high-hazard nuclear operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This role supports work inside a DOE Hazard Category II nuclear facility and requires strong procedural discipline, technical judgment, and the ability to operate independently in a secure, mission-critical environment.

Candidates with Navy Nuclear Power Program (NNPP) backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply
, as Navy nuclear training and operational experience align closely with LANL radiological controls, conduct of operations, and safety culture expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide radiological protection coverage for routine, complex, and high-hazard radiological work
  • Perform radiation and contamination surveys; interpret, document, and trend results accurately
  • Ensure compliance with 10 CFR 835
    , LANL RP procedures, and site-specific requirements
  • Support development, review, and execution of Radiological Work Control Packages (RWCPs)
  • Apply and verify appropriate radiological controls (postings, PPE, access controls, monitoring)
  • Serve as a field resource for workers, supervisors, planners, and safety personnel
  • Interface with operations, engineering, health physics, and project teams
  • Respond to abnormal radiological conditions and support event response activities
  • Maintain accurate logs, survey records, and documentation per LANL standards
Additional RCT 4 Responsibilities
  • Act as a senior RP technical authority and field lead
  • Coordinate RP resources in dynamic, high-tempo work environments
  • Review RWCPs for technical adequacy and regulatory compliance
  • Mentor junior RCTs and support on-the-job training
  • Anticipate radiological challenges and implement proactive controls
Minimum Qualifications

RCT 3

  • High school diploma plus 2–4 years of radiological or nuclear experience
  • Working knowledge of radiation protection fundamentals and operational health physics
  • Ability to perform independently with minimal supervision

RCT 4

  • High school diploma plus 4–6+ years of advanced radiological or nuclear experience
  • Demonstrated senior-level RCT capability in high-hazard environments
  • Proven ability to make sound technical and tactical decisions under changing conditions
Preferred Qualifications
  • Navy Nuclear Power Program (NNPP) experience (ELT, EM, ET, Reactor Operator, RP Tech)
  • Prior experience in DOE, NNSA, or commercial nuclear facilities
  • Experience supporting Category II nuclear facilities
  • RWCP/RWP development or review experience
  • Strong procedural compliance and conduct-of-operations background
Clearance & Access Requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance
  • Subject to Human Reliability Program (HRP) requirements
  • Unescorted access to secure and radiological areas required
Physical &

Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and carry up to 35 lbs
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, crawl, and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to wear PPE, including respiratory protection
  • Ability to work in radiological, industrial, and controlled environments
  • Shift flexibility as required by operations
