What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Work Control Planner 3 or Planner 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional responsibilities will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Work Control is a multidisciplinary group providing deployed support to all Facility Operations Directorates for maintenance planning, scheduling, and CMMS support. The MSS‑Work Control group uses Integrated Work Management to plan, schedule, and perform work in a safe and secure manner.
As a Work Control Planner you will:
- Develop, monitor, and validate accuracy of work packages, including time, material, and labor estimates; create step‑by‑step instructions, procedures, and safety testing requirements for operations, maintenance, construction, or modification of work activities.
- Record and audit performance data, reports, and statistical information; maintain the database and other required programs.
- Evaluate processes and procedures for improvements; develop and maintain maintenance policies, processes, and provide training.
Salary range: $85,900 – $139,900.
- Prepare, review, and issue work packages for equipment/systems modification, corrective maintenance, and preventative maintenance in unique or complex facilities.
- Analyze time and material requirements for unique or complex work activities.
- Prepare detailed specifications and labor estimates.
- Lead the development of step‑by‑step instructions for complex activities.
- Track and expedite established priority of work packages.
- Prepare and review instructions for isolation, containment, or de‑energizing of mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiological systems.
- Oversee functional and administrative activities: permit development, testing requirements, documentation, record management, database management, and training.
- Adhere to laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to work control and planning.
- Ensure that all work control results, materials, processes, and final products meet quality specifications and established requirements.
Salary range: $104,100 – $172,200.
- Manage and expedite established priority of work packages.
- Prepare and review instructions for isolation, containment, or de‑energizing of complex systems.
- Manage functional and administrative activities: permit development, testing requirements, documentation, record management, database management, and training.
Minimum Job Requirements
Knowledge & Expertise
:
Understand work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock‑out/tag‑out policies. Interpret mechanical and electrical documents, blueprints, and schematics. Knowledge of regulatory and environmental impacts affecting work control and planning. Familiarity with work control and facility policies.
Planning & Prioritization
:
Experience with work control, materials management, and mechanical maintenance. Conduct research, investigate alternatives, and recommend solutions. Communicate complex work control elements to technical and non‑technical personnel.
Technology
:
Utilize a computerized work management system for planning activities; prepare and present work control reports.
For Planner 4 add:
Expanded Knowledge & Expertise
:
Extensive knowledge of hazards, safety, and lock‑out policies in unique or complex facilities, including nuclear facilities.
Expanded Planning & Prioritization
:
Communicate complex planning elements for unique or complex activities and mentor less experienced personnel.
Education/Experience at Planner 3 level:
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of related experience (or equivalent). Post‑graduate coursework may be desirable.
Education/Experience at Planner 4 level:
Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of related experience (or equivalent). Post‑graduate coursework may be expected.
