Position Summary
The Technical Writer/Editor filling this position executes a variety of procedure-related assignments for the CH-TRU organization. This includes development of technical and administrative procedures, gathering information from a variety of expert contributors, conducting hazard analysis, managing document reviews, editing non-technical documents, and collaborating with other N3B organizations to achieve CH-TRU goals. This position will provide organizational senior level support to the CH-TRU organization and project personnel while providing leadership and management of routine and emergent technical procedure development and implementation.
This position will coordinate and collaborate with Subject Matter Experts in different disciplines and organizations to ensure proper integration and operational compliance and excellence with all related programmatic requirements, in accordance with approved written procedures, policies, DOE Orders, and other applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations to meet the N3B CH-TRU production goals, and company objectives. This position requires creativity and flexibility to meet new challenges and the expertise to apply appropriate solutions efficiently.
Duties/Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to:
- Writes technical procedures used for nuclear facility management and the storage, processing, and shipment of radioactive waste.
- Coordinates the efforts of project managers, nuclear operators, engineers, scientists, environmental professionals, safety experts, and field technicians to create safe, compliant, and comprehensive work documents.
- Routes procedures through the review and approval process, including leading round tables and executing real-time revisions, in accordance with company and DOE policy.
- Assists in field validations to verify that procedures can be performed as written.
- Evaluates existing procedures and job sequencing to verify that resulting work will ensure safety and economy consistent with government and company requirements; identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Implement lessons learned to enhance future performance and results.

A Bachelor's degree in the field of expertise or other closely related discipline; and at least twelve (12) years of relevant experience.
Experience in nuclear facility operations and waste management is required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities- Comprehensive knowledge of work control and conduct of operations.
- Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of work under a credited safety basis within a US Department of Energy owned facility
- Familiarity with implementation of nuclear facility controls, including technical safety requirements (TSRs), criticality safety evaluations, and hazardous waste permit requirements
- In-depth knowledge of Integrated Safety Management Systems (ISMS) implementation, and OSHA requirements for safe work performance.
- Experience with job hazard analysis and hazard identification.
- Comprehensive knowledge of principles and techniques associated with technical writing, Word processing, and document production.
- Ability to write succinct and easily understood instruction.
- Ability to perform highly complex writing tasks that involve compiling information from multiple and varied sources.
- Ability to coordinate and lead projects that involve multiple document development scopes and span extended time periods.
- Capable of acting as an independent contributor who is competent within the broad technical writing discipline.
- Capable of managing multiple document assignments simultaneously.
- Able to adapt procedures, tools and/or equipment to meet specialized needs.
- Able to perform duties and tasks that are varied and complex.
- Able to serve as a resource to others in the resolution of problems and issues.
- Ability to assist in orienting, training, assigning and checking the work of lower level employees.
