Hukari Ascendent is hiring a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to support the Plutonium Facilities Engineering Rapid Response Team at one of the nation’s most critical nuclear security sites.
This is a unique opportunity to provide advanced electrical engineering design and analysis for plutonium processing facilities, supporting rapid-response infrastructure upgrades, safety-related system evaluations, and mission-critical facility modifications under strict DOE/NNSA quality assurance requirements.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in nuclear electrical design packages, Class 1E systems, and DOE/NNSA electrical codes and standards, with the ability to operate in a high-consequence environment supporting national security missions.
Rate: $108.79/hr + Full Benefits
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited)
- Minimum 9 years of practical electrical engineering experience
- Expert knowledge of DOE/NNSA electrical codes and standards, including:
- IEEE 603 / 308 / 323 / 344
- NFPA 70 / 780
- NEC
- NQA-1
- Extensive experience developing electrical design packages for nuclear or DOE facilities
- Proven experience with safety-related electrical systems design and analysis
- Strong understanding of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B or equivalent QA programs
- Proficiency with CAD and electrical analysis tools such as:
- ETAP
- SKM Power Tools
- or similar platforms
- U.S. Citizenship required for DOE Q clearance eligibility
- Ability to participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
- Previous DOE Q or L clearance
- Experience supporting plutonium facilities, special nuclear material handling, or the nuclear weapons complex
- Familiarity with:
- Criticality safety systems
- Radiation monitoring systems
- Experience with ETAP, SKM Power Tools, or EPLAN Electric P8
- Background in instrumentation & controls (I&C) for nuclear processes
- Knowledge of seismic qualification requirements for electrical equipment
What You’ll Do:
- Design and analyze electrical systems for Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures
- Develop engineering calculations, specifications, and design drawings
- Lead design package development in accordance with DOE Order 426.2 requirements
- Provide construction and project support for facility modifications
- Conduct system integration across multiple engineering disciplines
- Perform rapid-response technical evaluations for operational issues
- Interface with regulatory bodies and ensure strict code compliance
- Mentor and provide technical direction to engineering staff
