Project Engineer 2

Location: Los Alamos, NM – TA-55 (100% Onsite)

Pay: $59/hr - $65/hr

Work Schedule:

4/10 schedule (day shifts; most of the team works Monday–Thursday). This position may support future 24/7 operations, including potential weekend day shift coverage.

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required

Clearance: DOE Q Clearance (must have ability to obtain; unescorted access required)

Mandatory Experience Requirement – Read Before Applying
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance, including eligibility for unescorted access in a secure nuclear facility.
  • You must be willing and able to work 100% onsite at TA-55 in Los Alamos, NM-no remote or hybrid work is available.
  • You must be available to support a future 24/7 operational environment (including potential weekend day shifts, but no overnight shifts).

Overview

As a Project Engineer 2 with the Plutonium Facilities Engineering Division (PFE-DO) and Project Engineering Group (PFE-PE) at Los Alamos National Laboratory, you will directly contribute to the safety, reliability, and modernization of the nation's nuclear infrastructure. You'll play a pivotal technical role supporting the United States' nuclear weapons stockpile stewardship mission by delivering compliant and mission‑critical projects in the Plutonium Facility (PF‑4) and surrounding facilities.

Responsibilities

and Duties
  • Meet with customers and users of LANL's Plutonium Facility (PF‑4) to understand project needs and define scopes of work.
  • Develop technical solutions for facility modifications, equipment replacements, layout changes, and new process or equipment installations.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineers and System Engineers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitate design development, reviews, and acceptance with internal and external subject matter experts.
  • Support Work Execution and Construction Management in project implementation.
  • Manage engineering change control and provide technical responses to design deviations.
  • Ensure solutions meet user needs and LANL technical requirements.
  • Complete close‑out activities by compiling project documentation according to LANL Document Control standards.
  • Act as the technically responsible engineer on assigned projects, coordinating with multiple engineering disciplines, craft, and maintenance teams.
Minimum Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.
  • Eligibility for unescorted access to secure nuclear facilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • At least three (3) years of relevant engineering or project engineering experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong reliability, ownership, and independent work ethic.

Education And Experience Requirements

(No specific software tools, certifications, or prior DOE/plutonium experience required.)
