Position: Operator 4/5

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either Facility Operations Technician 4 or 5 level, depending on the skills of the candidate. Additional responsibilities will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. The position reports to the TA‑55 Equipment Operations Supervisor and will perform tasks assigned by the supervisor. The Technician will provide support for day‑to‑day operations at TA‑55.

Operator 4 ($71,200 – $112,900)

Fully qualified, experienced operator as defined by the organization’s training and qualification program. Operates and monitors critical safety systems according to operating instructions. Responsible for safe execution of technical safety requirement surveillances or those required to meet safety/authorization basis requirements. Performs technical tasks in support of operations, maintenance, science, or engineering activities. Provides direct support in operations, specification, construction, and/or design of facility mechanical, electrical, and/or chemical systems.

Checks and inspects operation and maintenance against predetermined standards. Follows process sheets or written/verbal directions. Observes equipment and control panels for operator messages or error indicators. Sets up and runs diagnostic tests and reacts appropriately to the messages, reporting errors or machine malfunctions as required. May work with and be responsible for multiple systems.

Operator 5 ($85,900 – $139,900)

In addition to the duties at Operator 4, a fully qualified operator at this level is regarded as a facility expert. Operates and monitors critical safety systems according to operating instructions, is the facility lead on off‑shifts, and is required to make technical decisions regarding safe operations of nuclear facilities. Performs technical tasks in support of operations, maintenance, science or engineering activities, and provides direct support in operations, specification, construction, and/or design of facility mechanical, electrical, and/or chemical systems.

Checks and inspects operations against predetermined standards, follows process sheets or written/verbal directions, observes equipment and control panels for operator messages or error indicators, sets up and runs diagnostic tests, and reports errors or machine malfunctions as required.

Shiftwork

This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve a shift or weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift or weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

What You Need
Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Extensive experience and understanding of equipment operations: verbatim procedure compliance, hazard identification and analysis, configuration management, and extensive knowledge of typical facility instrumentation and control, electrical and mechanical systems, sub‑systems, and components (e.g., heating, ventilation, refrigeration, cooling towers, fire suppression/alarm systems, air compressors, pneumatic controls).
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting and diagnosing service problems and determining procedure to repair.
  • Demonstrated experience reading, understanding and explaining engineering, electrical, and mechanical drawings/specifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication.

Job Requirements for Operator 5
  • Expert understanding of and ability to identify work hazards, safety practices, and operating configuration.
  • Expert experience with lock‑out/tag‑out policies and procedures.
Training / Certifications

The Technician will be assigned the Equipment Operator qualification, will be assigned as a Glovebox Level 1 operator for PF‑4 trolley troubleshooting, and will be eligible to participate in additional pay programs when the required criteria are met.

Education / Experience at Operator 4 Level

Requires a relevant Associate’s Degree and 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
