What You Will Do
As an Engineering Technologist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, you will play a crucial role in solving complex technical problems that support our nation's security and scientific advancement. You'll use your expertise in engineering, mathematics, and science to lead and perform innovative work across various engineering disciplines. Your responsibilities will include developing new techniques, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and providing creative solutions to unique challenges.
You'll have the opportunity to work on cutting‑edge projects. This position offers autonomy and the chance to mentor junior staff while contributing to the Lab's mission of solving national security challenges through scientific excellence.
Job Requirements
- Expert knowledge of engineering work planning.
- Experience managing a warehouse.
- Knowledge of manufacturing principles and workshop safety.
- Expert knowledge of Laboratory procedures, standards and guides related to ALDWP.
- Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the Plutonium Manufacturing.
- Experience mentoring junior staff or leading technical teams.
- Knowledge of welding techniques, including EBW and GMAW.
Education/
Experience:
Position requires a Bachelor' Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE 426.2A: Requires a high school diploma.
Desired Qualifications- Experience with project management and cost estimation.
- Knowledge of industry regulations and safety protocols.
- Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 2 years.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires U.S. Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens.
Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of the agency.
Human Reliability Program (HRP): This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712. These requirements include ongoing drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre‑offer.
