Position: Explosives Safety (ESH Professional 2)

What You Will Do

The ESH Professional will support the explosives safety team by helping with a variety of tasks and activities to support the implementation of the Explosive Safety Program. This position will be involved in operations and activities related to high explosives (HE), pyrotechnics, propellants, energetic HE precursors, and assemblies containing these materials on Laboratory property, the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS), and off‑site locations where LANL provides the work authorization and has primary safety responsibility.

This role will work directly with the LANL Explosives Safety AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction), Explosives Safety Program lead and Chief Explosives Safety Officer while directly supporting the internal organizations who specialize in the development and testing of explosives.

What You Need Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Working knowledge and demonstrated experience developing, organizing, and maintaining written processes, procedures, and program documentation in support of an explosive's safety or other high-hazard safety program.
  • Working knowledge and demonstrated experience reviewing safety and technical documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with safety requirements.
  • Working knowledge and demonstrated experience maintaining electronic records, databases, and document control systems used to support safety program implementation, oversight, and reporting, including Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Ability to track, manage, and organize explosives safety documentation and records in coordination with the Explosives Safety AHJ and program leadership.
  • Working knowledge of records management and configuration control practices to support assessments, audits, and continuous improvement within the safety program.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Q clearance.
Education / Experience

Position requires a bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications
  • Successfully demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing effective internal and/or external customer relationships in support of safety programs.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Direct experience with high explosives.
  • Direct experience with document preparation and publication; experience in developing training materials.
  • Active Q clearance.
Work Location

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule

Preferred schedule is 9/80; 9 hours Monday–Thursday, 8 hours Friday, with every other Friday off. Ability to work off‑shift or swing shift may be required.

Position Commitment

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
