What You Will Do
Interested in facilities management, but don’t know how to get there? This position will provide you the fundamental experience, knowledge, and training for a career path towards facilities management. Starting as an Engineer I within the Maintenance and Site Services (MSS) Division, you will be provided the opportunity to experience all aspects of the organization as you are rotated through all the MSS functions that support the LANL mission.
As you move through these functions you will be provided the mentoring and training that you will need to become a Certified Facility Manager and using your newfound leadership skills move into a management position within the organization. Your experience will include work planning, scheduling, subcontract management, project estimating, facility operations, front-line supervision, and field execution of maintenance. You will be provided with facility system and supervisory training that will enable you to lead a team providing direct oversight of maintenance craft and subcontract work performing facility maintenance as well as facility upgrades.
This position will provide you initial field experience, supervisory and leadership skills for those candidates that are interested in an operations and/or facilities management career. Come join our team supporting the best and brightest minds supporting the LANL mission!
Minimum
Job Requirements:
Engineering: Knowledge of engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of technology aided engineering tools to conventional facility and operations-based engineering problems, work planning, control methods, techniques, and construction methodologies. Introductory knowledge of Engineering principles and procedures, design guides, and appropriate standards. Understanding of project and process engineering practices. Ability to understand work hazards, safety practices and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures for LANL facilities.
Ability to understand work control, maintenance and/or materials management.
Problem Solving: Demonstrated minimal experience and skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining action to be performed on problems affecting maintenance programs. Introductory knowledge of Engineering principles and procedures, design guides, and appropriate standards. Ability to understand and interpret various mechanical and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics. Demonstrated minimal skills to utilize and manipulate a computerized work management system, personal computer software, and site licensed programs in creating and maintaining maintenance reports.
Ability to understand configuration management process as it pertains to facility modifications.
Communication: Demonstrated minimal skills in the preparation and presentation of oral and written reports. Ability to conceptualize and professionally communicate major elements of facility maintenance to both technical and non-technical components.
Training/
Certifications:
This position is a path to become a Certified Facility Manager and a Qualified Maintenance Manager within the LANL institution.
Education/
Experience:
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 2 years of practical work experience. Current registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is highly desirable. Candidates that meet the degree requirement, but who do not meet the two-year experience requirement, are encouraged to apply and may be considered for hire through an allowable variance.

Qualifications:
- Understanding of Laboratory's facility maintenance policies, practices, and procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of DOE standards applicable to facility design, operation, and maintenance.
- Active Q clearance.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
