What You Will Do

The Technology Applications Group (A-3) is seeking an Electrical Engineer to work on our nation's most pressing national security challenges. A-3 is home to a broad range of engineering and scientific expertise dedicated to delivering functional solutions for users across the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and Intelligence Community. A-3's core competencies include radio frequency design and analysis, custom electronic solutions, mechanical design and evaluation, power infrastructure and systems.

A-3 currently has one Electrical Engineer opening for an individual interested in working in a multidisciplinary group consisting of engineers, scientists, technicians, machinists working to transform concepts and designs into products that meet Global Security mission deliverables. The desired candidate's primary functions will be utilization of core engineering principles to design, construct, prototype, test and analyze electrical systems. The successful candidate will work both independently and as part of a team typically operating on short operational timescales.

Most project work is conducted at the Q and SCI levels.

This position will be filled at either the R&D Engineer 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

• Contribute to the development, design, testing, fabrication, and installation of R&D projects including schedule development, cost estimates, and project status reports.
• Collaborate with team members on designs with internal and external colleagues at the project team and group level.
• Produce materials for technical reports, documents (including drawings and schematics), and presentations.

• Take the lead in design, testing, fabrication, and installation of R&D projects including schedule development, cost estimates, and project status reports.
• Lead collaboration on designs with internal and external colleagues at the project, team, and group level.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to team members.

• Demonstrated ability to conduct basic engineering research, both independently and on teams.
• Ability and desire to learn new skills and become an expert in new areas of interest.

The successful candidate must have experience in:

• Circuit design including:
  • Component selection
  • Schematic capture
  • PCB layout
• Board leveling testing
• SMT soldering
• Programming (Python, C, C++, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.)

• Demonstrated ability to lead components of basic engineering research, both independently and on teams.
• Demonstrated ability to independently identify and develop new skills and become an expert in new areas of interest.

The successful candidate must have expertise in at least two of the following areas:

• Circuit design including:
  • Component selection
  • Schematic capture
  • PCB layout experience
• Board leveling testing experience
• SMT soldering experience
• Programming experience (Python, C, C++, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.)

• Lower level:
  Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution related to the occupation combined with 2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience directly related to the occupation.
• Higher level:
  Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 4 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

• Experience working in Altium
• Operational experience in microcontrollers, electromagnetics, signal processing, field‑programmable gate arrays, VHDL, material‑electronic systems integration, reverse engineering of electronic systems and/or firmware, and software engineering
• Experience with computer‑based data acquisition systems acquiring and analyzing data during experiments (e.g. Lab View…
