Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) – TA-55 PF4. Pay: $65/hr – $70/hr + Per Diem Available.
Schedule:
4x10s (aligned with field/construction activities). Clearance: DOE Q Clearance required. Duration:
Up to 5 years (long-term opportunity).
We are seeking a high-level Operations Support Specialist 4 (OSS
4) to support critical construction and radiological operations within a DOE Hazard Category 2 nuclear facility at LANL.
The role is ideal for professionals who have deep experience in Radiation Protection and construction execution, and can operate as a technical leader across complex, high-hazard projects—ensuring safety, compliance, and mission success.
You will work directly with project leadership, engineering, work control, and field teams to drive execution, resolve technical issues, and ensure radiological controls are properly implemented across all phases of work.
Target Candidate Profile- Strong Radiation Protection background in DOE or nuclear environments.
- Proven experience supporting construction activities in CAT II nuclear facilities.
- Ability to operate as a technical authority / SME in radiological controls.
- Experience working with high-hazard systems, glove boxes, or plutonium facilities (highly preferred).
- Background in Navy Nuclear, DOE, or NNSA environments.
- Provide expert-level guidance on Radiation Protection and radiological safety during construction and operations.
- Support design, construction, startup, and maintenance activities for complex nuclear systems.
- Interface with project teams, work control, and construction leadership to ensure safe execution.
- Conduct independent technical reviews and assessments of radiological work and controls.
- Drive compliance with DOE standards, conduct of operations, and safety requirements.
- Lead coordination across multidisciplinary teams and ensure alignment with project deliverables.
- Provide technical recommendations and problem-solving for high-risk activities.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of relevant experience, including: 5+ years in Radiation Protection.
- Experience supporting DOE CAT II nuclear facility operations or construction.
- Demonstrated experience in radiological work planning and execution, supporting construction in nuclear/high-hazard environments, and interfacing with multiple stakeholders in regulated environments.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q Clearance.
- Experience in plutonium facilities (TA-55 / PF4).
- Strong Conduct of Operations knowledge.
- Experience with work control, hazard analysis, and radiological planning.
- Proven leadership in complex, high-risk project environments.
- Organization & execution in fast-paced, high-risk environments.
- Communication (written & verbal) across technical and leadership teams.
- Time management & task tracking with ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to anticipate issues and drive solutions proactively.
- Hybrid: onsite + remote flexibility.
- Work performed in secure nuclear environment (unescorted access required).
