Electro-Mechanical Technician; Engineered Systems Technician

Position: Electro-Mechanical Technician (Engineered Systems Technician 3/4)
** What You Will Do*
* ** This position is open for external candidates only to apply.*
* ** The AOT-OPS Targets and Experimental Support Team enables world class scientific research at the LANSCE proton accelerator.  Our team oversees several neutron spallation targets at the Los Alamos LANSCE proton accelerator, and provides operational and fabrication support to other accelerator teams.*
* ** During beam delivery our team works on weekly rotating on-call shifts (with on-call pay).  We operate and maintain several radioactive water cooling systems, vacuum systems, and a helium refrigeration system that liquifies hydrogen to 20K which supports low energy neutron science research.*
* ** Our team provides diverse capabilities to LANSCE including:*
* + Welding

+ Machining

+ Material handling

+ Radiological work

+ Cryogenics/vacuum/pressure system fabrication

+ Remote handling services utilizing robotic tools

** We are looking for a hands-on problem solver who thrives in a collaborative, high-impact R&D environment.*
* ** Engineered Systems Tec 3 ($66,100 - $103,600)*
* + Qualify to operate and maintain radioactive cooling water systems, and cryogenic systems (with oversight).

+ Assist in fabrication, testing, installation, and troubleshooting of mechanical hardware, sensors, and controls.

+ Support heavy lifting operations with forklifts and cranes.

** Engineered Systems Tec 4 ($72,800 - $115,400)*
* + Perform EST-3 duties with less oversight.

+ Develop technical solutions to complex problems.

+ Independently troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.

** This position will be filled at either the EST-3 or EST-4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate.  Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.*

Job Requirements:

* + Experience in design, fabrication, installation, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.

+ Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and verbal/written instructions.

+ Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a technical team.

+ Demonstrate ability to evaluate problems and recommend effective solutions.

+ Ability to obtain a Q Clearance, which typically requires U.S. citizenship.

** Additional

Job Requirements for EST-3:*
* ** In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:*
* + Additional experience, education, or training in design, fabrication, and/or testing of technical systems.

** Education/Experience for EST-3:*
* ** Position require an Associates' Degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.*
* ** Education/Experience for EST-4:*
* ** Position require an Associates' Degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, additional training and/or certification may be expected.*

Certifications:

* ** The selected candidate will be expected to obtain their 1L Target Operator qualification within 2 years of hiring.  This is an extensive training program to develop competence to independently operate all water, cryogenic, and vacuum systems serving the 1L target.*

Qualifications:

* + Experience working with pressure and/or vacuum systems.

+ Experience working with PLCs and low voltage controls wiring.

+ Experience working with electrical motors and equipment - 120/208/480 VAC.

+

Experience with machining, welding and/or general fabrication techniques.

+ Experience following formal procedures.
