Senior Project Engineer / Subject Matter Expert
Compa Industries is searching for qualified candidates for Senior Project Engineer / Subject Matter Expert positions supporting Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Salary: $85–$95/hr
Location: Hybrid – Los Alamos, NM / Santa Fe, NM with occasional onsite and vendor travel
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required
Work Schedule: 4/10s or 9/80 schedule
Clearance: Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance
Assignment Duration: 1 year with possible yearly extensions and potential conversion

Mandatory Experience Requirement – Read Before ApplyingCandidates must meet the following requirements to be considered:
- Must have an engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Biological, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Must have at least 3–4 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Must have experience supporting engineering projects involving fabrication, procurement, equipment design, system integration, technical project execution, or related project engineering scope.
- Must be able to support a hybrid work schedule with occasional onsite work in Los Alamos or Santa Fe.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.
- Must be willing to travel occasionally to vendor facilities as mission needs require.
The Project Engineer / SME will support LANL’s high-visibility PIT production mission by managing engineering scope tied to fabrication, procurement, renovation, and equipment development for the 30-PIT mission
, with long-term alignment toward the 30-PIT to 60-PIT mission by 2030
.
This role directly supports mission-critical engineering execution by coordinating with procurement engineers, technical experts, vendors, and cross-functional project teams. The selected candidates will help drive engineering work through a complex, multi-phase project currently in the first phase of execution.
Responsibilities and Duties- Act as a project engineer managing engineering functions for assigned scope, deliverables, and technical execution.
- Support fabrication and procurement activities related to equipment and systems for PIT production mission needs.
- Coordinate renovation, fabrication, and integration of equipment supporting the 30-PIT mission.
- Manage technical scope, project priorities, action items, engineering deliverables, and project execution requirements.
- Work closely with procurement engineers, vendors, technical experts, and cross-functional project teams.
- Support vendor coordination, technical reviews, procurement packages, fabrication oversight, and issue resolution.
- Participate in design, fabrication, procurement, and project planning across multiple phases of the project.
- Ensure engineering work aligns with project scope, schedule, mission requirements, and stakeholder expectations.
- Support occasional travel to vendor facilities for reviews, inspections, coordination meetings, or project execution needs.
- Communicate technical updates clearly with project leadership, engineering teams, procurement, vendors, and external stakeholders.
- Support project realignment, technical scope development, process improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment focused on safe, compliant, and efficient mission execution.
- Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Biological, or related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 3–4 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Experience supporting fabrication, procurement, equipment development, system integration, or technical project execution.
- Progressive engineering experience supporting technical projects, fabrication, procurement, equipment integration, or multidisciplinary project execution.
- Ability to manage engineering scope, coordinate technical stakeholders, and support project execution with minimal oversight.
- Engineering degree or equivalent technical background with relevant field/project experience.
