What You Will Do
Work Control planners develop, review, and finalize work packages for maintenance, repair, and construction activities within the laboratory’s facilities. They prepare detailed step‑by‑step instructions, estimate time, material, and labor, and ensure compliance with safety, security, and regulatory requirements. Depending on the selected level, planners may also handle process improvement, training, and supervisory responsibilities.
Work Control Planner 2 ($72,800 - $115,400)- Ensure safety and security compliance and maintain required training.
- Prepare, review, and issue equipment and system modification, corrective maintenance, and preventative maintenance work packages in accordance with procedures and regulations.
- Analyze time and material requirements for work activity.
- Assist in preparing detailed specifications for materials and labor estimates.
- Assist in developing step‑by‑step instructions for work.
- Track and expedite established priorities of work packages.
- Assist in preparing instructions for isolation, containment, or de‑energizing of mechanical, physical, or electrical systems.
- Participate in functional and administrative activities such as permit management, testing requirements, documentation generation, records management, database information retrieval, and training.
- Understand and adhere to Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to work control and planning.
- Ensure all work control results, materials, processes, and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements.
- Provide guidance, training, and instruction to lower‑level planners.
- Evaluate processes, programs, and procedures for potential improvements.
- Provide functional and operational direction to reporting maintenance/operations support and/or clerical employees when assigned.
- Knowledge & Expertise: Ability to understand work hazards, safety practices, lock‑out/tag‑out policies, and interpret mechanical and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and Laboratory work control policies.
- Planning & Prioritization: Experience with work control, materials management, and mechanical maintenance. Demonstrated skill in research, investigation of alternative solutions, and recommending solutions. Ability to communicate complex concepts to technical and non‑technical personnel.
- Technology: Proficiency with a computerized work management system for tracking work planning activities and preparing reports.
- Education/Experience (Planner
2): Associate’s Degree and 4 years of related experience or equivalent education/experience. - Education/Experience (Planner
3): Associate’s Degree and 8 years of related experience or equivalent. Post‑graduate coursework may be desirable. - Active Q clearance or eligibility to obtain one.
- Experience with Asset Suites and Mobile Work Package (MWP).
- Knowledgeable of facility and utility equipment.
- Familiarity with Laboratory policies and procedures.

Work LocationOn‑site position in Los Alamos, NM.
Position CommitmentEmployees must serve at least one year of continuous service to be eligible for subsequent Laboratory postings.
