What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Engineered Systems Tec 3 or Tec 4 level, depending on the candidate’s skills. It supports the national security and nuclear deterrent missions by providing high‑quality empirical evidence through the execution and assessment of weapons system and component testing. The successful candidate works in test labs alongside R&D Engineers and Engineering Technologists, providing hands‑on support with large equipment, maintaining and troubleshooting test gear, and participating in outdoor firing sites for explosive testing.
Key responsibilities include coordination with team members from V‑14 and other testing organizations, ensuring safety and security compliance, contributing to the development of new testing technologies and techniques, and implementing quality‑assurance requirements.
Engineered Systems Tec 3Range: $66,100 – $103,600
- Provide support for collecting data and running tests.
- Interpret engineering drawings and provide knowledgeable input.
Range: $72,800 – $115,400
- Collaborate and advise technologists and engineers in design, manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
- Write safety procedures for tests and test equipment.
- Coordinate testing activities with customers and service providers for test execution.
Job Requirements
- Extensive experience with hand tools and complex assemblies and/or diagnostics.
- Ability to maintain and troubleshoot mechanical and test equipment.
- Experience with material handling equipment.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a dynamic work environment.
- Willingness to adhere to safety protocols, especially when working with hazardous materials.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance.
- Experience with hazardous materials (e.g., radiation, high explosives).
- Familiarity with Measuring and Test Equipment (M&TE) and calibration.
- Demonstrated mentorship and training on test equipment and procedures.
- Self‑motivation and ability to work independently.
Lower level requires an Associate’s Degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At the Tec 4 level, a minimum of 5 years of related experience or equivalent education and experience is required.
Desired Qualifications- Fielding and acquiring data with cameras, accelerometers, thermocouples, or strain gauges.
- Experience working under Integrated Work Documents (IWDs).
- HE Handler certification.
- Forklift training/certification.
- Qualified Crane Certification.
- Active DOE Q clearance.
- Modest machining experience.
The position is located onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
