Position: Mechanical Engineering Technologist 1/2 (Engineering Technologist 1/2)
** What You Will Do*
* ** This position will be filled at either the Engineering Technologist 1 or Engineering Technologist 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate.  Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.*
* V-14 (Test Engineering) supports the national security and nuclear deterrent mission by providing high-quality, empirical evidence through the execution and assessment of weapons system and component testing.

The successful candidate will support the experimental evaluation of weapons components, subsystems, and systems.  In this role, you will be responsible for providing support in the preparation and execution of experimental activities, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing of facility equipment, setting up instrumentation and data acquisition equipment, and other similar tasks.  Specific test environments include but are not limited to shock, vibration, thermal conditioning, blast, high-G load, and mechanical load-deflection testing.

Maintaining a safety and security-conscious environment are paramount in all assignments and actions. Compliance with LANL and facility safety and security practices and delivering accurate test results in a team effort are central to all testing efforts.  Additional job responsibilities include participating in the development of new testing technologies and techniques and implementing quality assurance requirements.

Performance of job responsibilities will require working in controlled hazardous environments that may include high explosives, radioactive materials, radiation generating devices, and other hazardous materials.

** Engineering Technologist 1 (ET-1) $87,800 - $143,00*
* Successful applicants will perform the following duties in this position:

+ Apply basic knowledge of the principles and theories of engineering, mathematics and science to solve routine technical problems.

+ Provide resolutions to an assortment of problems of moderately complex scope.

+ Assist in engineering studies to formulate, determine and evaluate design criteria for structures, systems, and equipment.

+ Make simple calculations and perform basic analyses in support of engineering activities.

+ Assist in product/system/equipment design, development and/or experimental evaluation processes.

+ Contribute to preparation of technical documentation and provide review.

+ Maintain required safety and security training and compliance with LANL's safety and security protocols.

** Engineering Technologist 2 (ET-2) $96,600 - $158,000*
* In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the successful applicant will:

+ Lead larger portions of the experimental execution process with limited oversight

+ Contribute to mentorship of earlier career staff

+ Provide recommendations on proper processes for product development, including fabrication, material selection, machining methods/equipment selection, tooling/fixtures, inspection, and assembly techniques.

+ Perform computer-related activities, such as preparing, inputting data, and using computer programs for computerized solutions of technical problems, support of control systems and use of CAD systems for drawing preparation.

+ Develop solutions to engineering problems in support of hardware design and/or testing. Conduct calculations and perform analyses in support of engineering activities.

+ Demonstrate and promote team building and collaboration as well as conflict resolution.

+ Interact with all levels of personnel and customers, with demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks under strict deadlines and changing priorities.
