Position: Control Account Manager (Science/Engineering Program Manager 3/4)

What You Will Do

The Plutonium Modernization Mission Office (PMMO) is seeking a Science Engineering Program Manager 3/4 (SE PM 3/4) to serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM) for one or more of the following sub programs:
Pit Manufacturing Execution (PMX), Maintenance, Equipment & Qualification (MEQ), and Material Recycle, Recovery, & Storage (MRR ST). Your work will directly support the planning, execution, and management of operations critical to LANL's plutonium pit production mission.

In this role, you will manage scope, schedule, budget, metrics, and reporting for assigned control accounts. You will help define and lead changes required to achieve reliable, efficient pit production, collaborating across multiple technical disciplines and organizations. You will report to and support senior program management within PMMO and contribute to an approximately $1B/year mission portfolio.

As the national security mission advances—with the first W87 1 production unit achieving war reserve status and rate production approaching—this is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of the U.S. nuclear deterrent.

Science/Engineering Program Manager 3 $ 141,500 - $238,300
  • Manage control account scope, schedule, and budget
  • Develop and report on milestones and performance metrics
  • Identify, develop, and manage risks, issues, and opportunities
  • Coordinate and oversee interfaces needed for mission execution
  • Support development of execution/implementation plans from concept to completion
  • Track cost, schedule, and progress against baselines and milestones
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant technical disciplines and adhere to regulatory and Laboratory requirements
  • Collaborate with the PMMO risk team on risk mitigation and corrective actions
Science/Engineering Program Manager 4 $ 153,600 – $266,500

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will demonstrate expert level program management capabilities and broader portfolio leadership, applying advanced technical and management judgment to complex, integrated mission needs.

What You Need Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of project management, including plans, WBS, work packages, baselines, and change control
  • Advanced knowledge of one or more Plutonium Modernization technical or operational disciplines
  • Advanced understanding of Laboratory and regulatory requirements for technology maturation & nuclear operations
  • Demonstrated communication effectiveness with senior leaders and stakeholders
  • Proven ability to lead and manage diverse teams and complex efforts

  • Expert level program/project management experience
  • Expert level knowledge of technical disciplines and operational frameworks within PMMO
  • Consultative level communication and leadership experience across institutional and federal stakeholders
Education/Experience at Science/Engineering Program Manager 3

Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering related field from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at Science/Engineering Program Manager 4

Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering related field from an accredited institution and 12 years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

DOE Order 426.2/426.2A requirements apply (including experience and nuclear familiarity).

Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of NA 19/NA 191 missions and ALDWP production environment
  • Technical experience in modern manufacturing ops, engineering, or related technical fields
  • Experience with EVMS; NNSA Enhanced Management Level A or B reporting a plus
  • Experience developing high level integration tools, cost models, or interface agreements
  • Experience leading and developing technical teams to deliver complex milestones

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
