** What You Will Do*
* ** This position will be filled at either the Engineering Technologist 1/2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.*
* The Engineering Technologist for Utilities & Infrastructure (UI) Division will work within the Reinvestment and Modernization (RM) Group on the Efficiency, Conservation, and Optimization (ECO) Team. UI is responsible for maintaining and operating all the Laboratory's utility systems including electric, gas, sewer, steam, water, traffic infrastructure, transit operations, and open space. In addition, the UI-ECO team manages a program designed to reduce the energy and water use of the Laboratory.

** Engineering Technologist 1 ($87,800 - $143,000)*
* The selected candidate will become the Energy Manager (EM) for the Laboratory and must have, or be able to obtain within one year, a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). Primary responsibilities include managing the Laboratory's execution of the Energy and Water Evaluations provisions under the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA). The EM will support the implementation of ECMs by UI and other facility operators, then perform measurement & verification to support data collection for reinvestment of savings.
Secondary responsibilities include developing, coordinating, and executing utility metering programs, monitoring facility-level energy performance, and communicating anomalies to stakeholders to facilitate timely corrective actions.
This position will work to support DOE's national security, science, energy, and environmental management mission. We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic candidates with strong time management, problem-solving, communication, and team-building skills. The selected candidate's responsibilities will include:
+ Assures safety and security compliance, making safety and security an integral part of every task
+ Assist with Laboratory compliance with EISA, including DOE/EISA required reporting and designating facilities as EISA covered
+ Assist in the performance of the required energy and water evaluations
+ Ensure the completion of commissioning assessments for EISA covered buildings over 50K gross square feet, by LANL's internal agents or subcontractors
+ Work with the Operations Specialist responsible for utility metering to analyze facility energy use, to plan for metering of EISA covered buildings, and to complete the external reporting of commodity use to internal and external customers
+ Contribute to the effort to create dashboards and data visualizations of meter data for use by UI and facility operators
+ Monitor LANL and facility-level consumption data and analyze trends to alert facility operators and UI to irregularities to facilitate quick repairs, curtailing unnecessary energy and water waste
+ Assist the facility operators with engineering studies to develop scopes of work, budgets, and implementation plans for ECMs, as well as promoting the use of Energy Savings Performance Contracts or Utility Energy Service Contracts
+ Assist in the collection of data used for measurement and verification of installed ECMs and use the data to assist in the development of a reinvestment initiative for funding future ECM implementation
+ Coordinate and communicate project/program status in the form of presentations, verbal updates, and written reports

** Engineering Technologist 2 ($96,600 - $158,000)*
* In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the Engineering Technologist will perform all the tasks described above as well as be asked to:
+ Perform energy and water evaluations including ECM recommendations, report writing, and evaluation of the suggested ECMs for viability by determining project cost, savings, and payback period
+ Develop and manage a Building Automation System (BAS) Optimization program (to take the place of regular energy audits)
+ Perform Work with UI to improve the efficiency of utility scale projects
+ Advise on questions about energy procurement
+ Lead a Smart Labs program to promote and champion projects on buildings other than EISA covered buildings
+ Coordinate with High Performance Computing and Data Centers to optimize computing operations as well as the buildings that house them
+ Develop and implement a LANL Energy Management System such as ISO 14001
