* NPI-7 is looking for a Nuclear & Hazardous Materials Technician to join our team! NPI-7 operates in a highly active and fast-paced environment, providing safe, efficient and compliant shipping of all radioactive and hazardous materials generated at the TA-55 Plutonium Facility, the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research (CMR) building, the TA-50 Radioactive Liquid Waste Treatment Facility (RLWTF), the Radiological Laboratory Utility Office Building (RLUOB), the Transuranic Waste Facility (TWF) and the Radioassay and Nondestructive Testing Facility (RANT).

The position requires flexibility, as duties are performed both indoors and outdoors, often under varying weather conditions. ** This position will require non-normal business hours, 24/7 coverage and therefore may require working a rotating shift schedule that includes nights and weekends.*

** Nuclear & Hazardous Materials Technician 2
** will collaborate closely with teams across the division as well as with other groups within TA-55 and the Laboratory. Under direct supervision, you will support the safe and compliant management of hazardous and radioactive materials that are essential to LANL's mission. Primary responsibilities include handling and inspecting drums and other waste containers, operating forklifts and other specialized mechanical handling equipment, and maintaining precise documentation to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements.
This position requires performing duties both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, demanding flexibility, attention to detail, and resilience. Team members are expected to adhere to a broad range of nuclear management protocols while demonstrating the ability to work independently on complex, concurrent projects that require adaptability, initiative, and effective collaboration. Ultimately, success in this role is defined by a strong commitment to advancing LANL's national security mission through dependable and proactive support wherever it is most needed.
** Nuclear & Hazardous Materials Tec 3 ($64,700 - $101,400)*
* Nuclear & Hazardous Materials Technician 3 will play a key role in supporting safe and compliant operations within TA-55 and across the Laboratory, working closely with both divisional teams and other groups to ensure mission success. In this position, the selected candidate will be responsible for a wide range of activities, including the safe handling, packaging, and documentation of hazardous and radioactive materials in accordance with regulatory and Laboratory requirements.
The role involves operating and maintaining mechanical lifting equipment, such as gantry and bridge cranes as well as forklifts, to facilitate the movement and staging of materials. Additional responsibilities include the management and oversight of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) storage areas, ensuring proper segregation, labeling, and tracking of materials to maintain compliance with environmental and safety standards. The technician will also be accountable for ensuring that all processes, results, and materials meet rigorous quality specifications, with final products completed accurately, safely, and on schedule.
Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, technical skill in operating specialized equipment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to uphold LANL's commitment to operational excellence and national security.
