SMSI is seeking an Electrical Engineer to work on a large capital line‑item project supporting NNSA. The work will be performed in Los Alamos, NM. The Electrical Engineer supports the systems acceptance testing for the electrical engineering discipline, using SKM or ETAP power tools or a similar software package for transformer sizing. The Electrical Engineer will utilize the systems engineering process, providing foundational knowledge of functional and operational requirements, design criteria, and identification and implementation of applicable codes and standards.

The Electrical Engineer will support systems testing, systems acceptance, systems verification, and operational readiness.

• Prepare systems test plans and procedures.
• Support systems acceptance testing.
• Review systems allocation and verification packages for requirement traceability.
• Develop systems verification packages, ensuring requirement traceability.
• Review and validate modification design change packages.
• Perform field walkdowns supporting electrical start‑up engineering.
• Prepare systems for operational readiness reviews and closeout.
• Review and validate vendor data against systems verification and acceptance plans.
• Assist system engineers in developing and maintaining technical baseline documents at project closeout.
• Independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
• Work on a major project or several projects of moderate scope with complex features.
• Receive supervision and guidance relating to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.

• 5-10 years of related experience in electrical engineering in nuclear or process chemical industry.
• Working design experience in nuclear industry/facility is preferred with NQA-1 experience and IEEE, NEC codes and standards.
• Experience working with SKM or ETAP power tools or a similar software package.
• US citizenship is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance is required.
• Candidate must be able to work onsite in Los Alamos.

• Active DOE Q clearance preferred, but not required.
• Design experience in nuclear, accelerator or industrial facility operations.
• Experienced in producing designs utilizing AutoCAD and/or Revit tools and work processes.
• Knowledge of DOE, LANL Engineering Standards, and Conduct of Engineering principles and procedures.
• Experience working with SKM or ETAP power tools or a similar software package.
• Working knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) to include sizing and programming.
• Working knowledge of Lightning Protection Systems (LPS), backup facility power generation, and Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS).

• A bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline from an ABET-accredited college or university.
• Professional Engineer license is a plus.
