Nuclear Facilities Engineer 3 $ 128,000 - $215,900

The selected candidate will play a critical part in ensuring electrical safety, power quality, power monitoring, and critical power reliability within and around the plutonium facility. You will lead and collaborate on projects involving facility modifications, new equipment installations, and infrastructure development, ensuring that all systems meet the highest standards of performance, safety, and compliance. Your work may include conducting and reviewing complex engineering studies such as short-circuit analysis, device coordination, equipment sizing, fault current calculations, exterior lighting design, and arc flash assessments for both medium- and low-voltage systems.

You may also support demolition, installation, upgrade, and repair activities, as well as have the opportunity to qualify as a Cognizant System Engineer (CSE) for one or more Vital Safety Systems (VSS) supporting LANL nuclear facilities.

This position requires demonstrated technical depth in electrical engineering, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and proven leadership in guiding cross-disciplinary teams within a highly regulated nuclear environment. The role also demands effective communication, sound engineering judgment, and a commitment to mentorship and continuous professional development. The selected candidate will ensure that all work aligns with DOE Orders and Standards, the Nuclear Safety Management Rule, American Nuclear Society Standards, national consensus codes, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Nuclear Facilities Engineer 4 $ 153,600 - $266,500

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, in this level the selected candidate identifies and/or leads activities within a nuclear facility engineering discipline, demonstrating initiative, technical depth, and leadership in complex project environments. The candidate must be able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, applying broad and diversified knowledge of nuclear facility engineering principles and practices in the preparation and execution of nuclear facility engineering deliverables.

This includes utilizing nuclear engineering technology to accomplish work safely and efficiently while continuously improving engineering and work processes to meet evolving customer and mission needs. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical foundation, sound judgment, and the ability to integrate requirements across multiple systems and disciplines to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable facility operations. The candidate can either be a qualified Fire Protection Engineer or another engineering discipline (such as a Mechanical Engineer) with demonstrated experience or the willingness and ability to support Fire Protection systems within LANL's nuclear facilities.###
