The Radiation Protection Technical Lead provides senior-level technical expertise and leadership in support of design, construction, startup, and operational activities within complex, high-hazard nuclear facilities. This role serves as a subject matter expert in Radiation Protection, delivering independent assessments, technical guidance, and strategic recommendations to ensure safe and compliant project execution.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:The Radiation Protection Technical Lead manages daily technical activities and provides oversight for ongoing project work associated with high‑hazard systems and nuclear facility operations. The role applies expert‑level knowledge to evaluate radiation protection requirements, identify risks, and recommend solutions across design, work planning, construction, and operational phases. Responsibilities include providing technical direction to project teams, reviewing and assessing Radiation Protection program elements, and ensuring alignment with applicable DOE standards and regulatory requirements.
The position supports work control processes and interfaces directly with engineering, construction, and project management teams to resolve technical issues and improve performance. The role develops and enforces work standards, establishes priorities, assigns work schedules, and evaluates work quality to ensure successful project execution. The Technical Lead communicates organizational goals, policies, and expectations while providing leadership and coordination across multidisciplinary teams.
Additional responsibilities include performing independent technical reviews and assessments in specialized areas, advising management and customer representatives on Radiation Protection matters, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and supervising and mentoring senior personnel within the project organization.
A standard 40‑hour work week is expected. Additional schedule details will be provided by the client. Overtime may be required to meet project deliverables.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS –EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience in Radiation Protection.
Experience /Skills:
- Minimum twelve (12) years of relevant experience
- At least five (5) years of directly applicable experience in Radiation Protection and/or work planning within a DOE Category 2 nuclear facility
- Demonstrated experience supporting design, construction, startup, and/or operations of high‑hazard nuclear systems or projects
- Strong knowledge of DOE regulations, Radiation Protection principles, and conduct of operations
- Proven ability to provide technical recommendations and resolve complex issues in Radiation Protection
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to interface effectively with management personnel, project teams, and customer representatives
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high‑performance project environment
- DOE plutonium facility experience
- Extensive knowledge of conduct of operations and nuclear safety culture
- Prior experience leading technical teams on complex nuclear projects
