The ES-WPD Graduate Student (GS) Program offers paid summer internships for graduate students in a variety of engineering disciplines. The program provides mentoring, hands‑on technical experience, and professional development opportunities through a formalized work plan that complements the student's chosen area of study.
Examples of LANL projects in ES-WPD include, but are not limited to:
- Learn about facilities mechanical systems design and operation from seasoned engineers
- See how your engineering skills can contribute to national security
- Learn how to be a design team member
- Learn how to navigate and implement prevailing industry codes and standards
- Gain expertise in the development of design deliverables including drawings, specifications, test and inspection plans (TIPs), statements of special inspections (SSIs), and calculations
- Develop engineering judgment
Minimum
Job Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program.
- Must be enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours (or full‑time equivalent). Entering college freshmen must provide documentation indicating matriculation into an undergraduate degree program.
- Must currently have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
The work location for this position is on‑site and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

No clearance required. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre‑employment background checks.
