Job Title: Engineer / Scientist 3 – Polymer Components Team Lead
Duration: Full-Time: 2 years with possible extension(s)
Short SummaryHukari Ascendent is seeking a Scientist/Engineer 3 to lead a team responsible for developing and realizing polymer components a weapons system. As a Product Realization Team (PRT) Lead, you will coordinate the design and development efforts for polymer components, collaborate with Production Agencies across the Nuclear Security Enterprise, and ensure delivery of a producible, Mark Quality design. This is an opportunity to be part of the first new nuclear weapon system program in over 30 years, working closely with national laboratory and industry design and production agency partners.
ResponsibilitiesLead a team responsible for developing and realizing polymer components for a weapons system. Coordinate the design and development efforts for polymer components, collaborate with Production Agencies across the Nuclear Security Enterprise, and ensure delivery of a producible, high-quality design. Work closely with national laboratories and industry design and production agency partners.
Required Qualifications- Significant knowledge and experience in one or more technical R&D disciplines with a demonstrated understanding of scientific integrity.
- Significant knowledge and experience developing and implementing technical R&D projects, including hypothesis formulation and testing, investigation of alternatives, and recommendation of solutions.
- Significant knowledge and experience formulating and presenting results to technical audiences.
- Significant knowledge and experience with appropriate safe practices for technical work.
- Ability to solve complex problems with multiple variables, using new and unconventional techniques when necessary.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring in a diverse R&D team; cross-organizational team leadership; thorough knowledge of requirements engineering and product realization; excellent project management; and effective communication with program-level stakeholders.
- Education (Scientist
3):
Master’s degree in STEM and 6 years of experience, or equivalent combination. - Active Q Clearance, equivalent DoD clearance, or ability to obtain an Active Q Clearance.
- Experience with nuclear weapon system design and engineering, particularly US Navy systems.
- Experience with nuclear weapon development, qualification, certification, assembly/production, or surveillance.
- Science or engineering degree in chemistry, polymer science, or materials science and engineering.
- Demonstrated knowledge of chemical sciences and ability to evaluate material experiment data; understanding of polymer aging and compatibility.
- Firm knowledge of GD&T and ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Demonstrated understanding of requirements engineering: creating, validating, and verifying requirements.
- Familiarity with DPBPS (Defense Programs Business Process System).
- Experience with product realization from conceptual designs through to qualified production.
- Domestic travel required, approximately 20% to DOE sites; may require unusual work hours.
- The position is physically located in Los Alamos, NM. Work location is onsite; all locations are at the discretion of management.
