Position: Space Electronics & Signal Processing Deputy Group Leader (R&D Manager 3)

What You Will Do

  • Work closely with the ISR-4 Group Leader to provide scientific, technical, and operational leadership for a group of over 40 staff.
  • Lead strategic initiatives, resource allocation, and personnel development to sustain ISR-4 capabilities.
  • Coordinate with ISR Division Leadership, program offices, and stakeholders to ensure safety, security, and project oversight.
  • Manage workforce administration, performance, salary, staffing, finances, facilities, equipment, and safety/security compliance.
  • Balance managerial duties with half‑time technical work on project deliverables.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience leading interdisciplinary teams and developing collaborations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and judgment skills to evaluate trade‑offs and influence project direction.
  • Proven ability to motivate and guide diverse technical teams under constrained funding and schedules.
  • Experience modeling collaborative leadership to foster a creative R&D environment.
  • Conflict management and resolution skills.
  • Experience working in a large, complex institution with many systems, policies, and processes.
Technical Experience
  • Embedded electronics design & layout
  • Analog circuit design for specialized detectors
  • Digital signal processing and embedded software
  • Mixed‑signal system design and optimization
  • Rad‑hard single board computers
  • Power electronics & specialty power supply design
  • Applied RF & antenna design
Security Clearance

Ability and desire to obtain Q clearance, which generally requires U.S. citizenship.

Education / Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and at least 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination.

Desired Qualifications
  • Hardware design for space applications.
  • Familiarity with LANL operational policies.
  • Program development and proposal experience.
  • Supervision of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Active Q/SCI clearance or clearance eligibility.
