Job Overview

Longenecker & Associates (L&A), a Geosyntec Company, invites applications for the position of Electrical Safety Officer at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The role provides oversight of the LANL Electrical Safety Program, delivers electrical safety support to construction projects, and ensures compliance with safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary contact on electrical safety and administer the LANL Electrical Safety Program.
  • Act as a resource for LANL employees and managers regarding electrical safety concerns.
  • Conduct incident investigations and determine root causes, developing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Perform workplace condition inspections to identify electrical hazards in various environments.
  • Lead reviews of Integrated Work Documents (IWD) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Contribute to the development of codes, standards, and specifications for electrical equipment safety.
  • Provide advanced support to engineers and scientists in solving complex technical problems.
  • Participate in the evaluation of controlled items and services for compliance with electrical safety requirements.
  • Perform calculations to determine electrical severity scores for incidents.
  • Develop written electrical safety policies, procedures, and design standards.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (required).
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
  • At least 7 years of relevant field experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards, including NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA, especially NFPA 70E.
  • Experience with electrical engineering/technology in a variety of applications such as low voltage AC and DC systems.
  • Significant experience with personal computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Expert communication and organizational skills for presenting complex technical information.
  • Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training.
  • U.S. citizenship required due to federal contract security requirements.
  • Successful completion of a federal background investigation to secure and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Health and safety training, medical monitoring, and client‑driven drug and background testing required.
