What You Will Do

Plutonium Infrastructure Engineering (PIE) develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of nuclear facility engineering capabilities to provide innovative solutions to enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security mission.
We are seeking a Group Leader (Nuclear Facilities Engineering Manager
4) to support the Install 2 Group and the Laboratory mission, and assist the Division Leaders.
- Assist the Division Leaders in continued and maturing implementation of Conduct of Engineering and Configuration Management programs for nuclear facilities.
- Provide oversight/management of nuclear design‑engineering services to ensure facilities and equipment are designed, fabricated and delivered, constructed, modified and maintained to satisfy customer needs and expectations in a cost‑effective, safe, and compliant manner.
- Provide oversight/management of a range of engineering services, including project engineering, systems engineering, and field engineering in support of project execution and fabrication in operating nuclear facilities.
- Support the Division Leaders to effectively lead the development and control of nuclear facility project baselines, disciplined and effective nuclear safety basis implementation, and assessment of overall performance.
- Communicate with all levels of internal and external customers to define and recommend cross‑organizational operational objectives.
- Assist the Division Leaders in developing specific short‑term and long‑range plans and monitor progress to assure long‑term objectives are attained and customer requirements are met.
- Ensure daily open communication with workers (including subcontractors) that promotes an environment where workers feel comfortable bringing errors, system weaknesses and issues to management attention.
- Perform oversight/management of design review of external design agency design submittals for nuclear facility equipment.
- Manage an interdisciplinary team of engineers across multiple shifts supporting installation and D&D activities of nuclear facility infrastructure.
- Support engineering staff to ensure effective and timely field, system, and project engineering deliverables including pre‑construction material, design, and functional compliance reviews, technical field support throughout execution, and project closeout activities.
- Reports directly to Deputy Division Leader(s).
Job Requirements
Leadership:
Demonstrated leadership and innovation in managing a multi‑disciplined engineering organization.
- Significant record of leading a technical organization in support of nuclear facilities including operations, maintenance, systems engineering, safety basis, and projects to establish and continuously improve conduct of engineering implementation in support of reliable facility operations.
- Experience interfacing with contractor management, NNSA/DOE staff, DNFSB staff and board members, and occasionally members of the public.
- Expertise in negotiation with customers and support organizations and resolving conflicts; demonstrated success in developing internal and external customer relationships achieving a high degree of customer satisfaction.
- Experience developing and managing budgets.
- Experience developing and implementing in‑house engineering standards, master specifications, and Conduct of Engineering for facility operations and maintenance.
- Significant management experience effecting the requirements above.
A professional license (PE) in an engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board is preferred.
Education and ExperiencePosition requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications- Knowledge of LANL activities and nuclear operations including project execution and management, construction, environmental safety and health (ES&H), and quality control.
