Location: Los Alamos, NM (100% Onsite, TA-16)
Compensation: $80-$90/hr

Duration: 1-year contract | Extension and conversion to LANL possible

WHY THIS ROLEThis is a high-visibility, senior-level planning role supporting critical facility operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory's TA-16 - one of LANL's most consequential technical areas. As a Work Control Planner 4, you will develop and execute detailed work packages that ensure safe, efficient, and compliant maintenance and operational activities across a highly regulated DOE environment.
You will own the full planning lifecycle - from developing step-by-step work instructions and safety requirements through coordination with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams, all the way to package closure. This role is ideal for candidates with strong DOE, nuclear, or Navy backgrounds who are ready to step into a senior planning position with strong long-term potential, including extension and LANL conversion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Develop and review detailed work packages including labor, materials, time estimates, and step-by-step work instructions
- Create and maintain procedures, safety requirements, and testing documentation for maintenance and operational work
- Support planning activities across mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiological systems
- Identify and resolve work constraints, ensuring packages are executable, compliant, and ready for field execution
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure successful work execution
- Drive work packages through the full lifecycle - planning, execution, and closure
- Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as Maximo or similar tools
- Perform outdoor facility walkdowns and field inspections across TA-16 as required
- Operate a government vehicle for site movement as needed
- Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of relevant experience, OR 20+ years of direct relevant experience without a degree
- Strong background in work control planning, maintenance, or construction environments
- Experience developing technical procedures and detailed work instructions
- Familiarity with facility systems, including HVAC, boilers, and utilities
- Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance - U.S. citizenship required
- Experience working in highly regulated environments such as DOE, nuclear, or Navy
- Ability to climb ladders and perform field walkdowns in outdoor environments
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate a government vehicle
- DOE, NNSA, or nuclear facility work control planning experience
- Experience with Maximo, Asset Suite, or similar CMMS tools
- Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or Procedure and Policy Writing (PPA) certification
- Background in facility operations, maintenance planning, or construction support
- Prior experience at LANL or another DOE national laboratory facility
- Start: ASAP
- No per diem - relocation possible upon conversion to LANL
- Split schedules are not permitted - must be available 100% onsite full-time
- Strong potential for extension and direct conversion to LANL employment
- Must be a U.S. Citizen - Q Clearance eligibility requires citizenship, no exceptions
- Must have a Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of relevant experience, OR 20+ years of direct experience without a degree
- Must have demonstrated work control planning experience with technical procedure and work instruction writing
- Must be available 100% onsite at TA-16, Los Alamos, NM - split schedules not permitted
- Must be able to climb ladders and perform outdoor field walkdowns
- Must be able to operate a government vehicle
