Position: Quality Product Verifier (R&D Engineer 1/2)

What You Will Do

Join the Weapons Production Directorate at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) as a Quality Product Verifier—a critical role with a clear path for development and advancement. If you're an engineer with a background in quality, manufacturing, or compliance—and a passion for precision—this is your opportunity to step into a role that directly supports national security. You will receive structured training and mentorship in unique nuclear product acceptance protocols and DOE/NNSA requirements, gaining qualifications that are highly respected across the national security complex.

  • Independently review and evaluate final products, ensuring they meet design, performance, and quality requirements
  • Compare production records and quality evidence against technical specifications, drawings, and regulatory criteria
  • Formally certify products on behalf of LANL and present them to customers at the DOE/NNSA
  • Serve as a liaison between LANL and its customers during product inspections and acceptance reviews
  • Participate in delegated inspection and stamping activities (training and certification provided)
  • Contribute to documentation, procedure development, and quality system improvement
  • Begin by supporting experienced verifiers and grow into a certifying authority with broad responsibility and visibility
R&D Engineer 1

$96,600 - $158,000

You will contribute to engineering R&D activities and operations in support of quality engineering and product acceptance. This includes data review/interpretation and physical inspections of manufactured components and products. Serve as an in-person or live instructor administering assurance training, responsible for creating content, updates, and/or revisions for Achieving Successful Product Acceptance (ASPA) training curriculum.

R&D Engineer 2

$106,400 - $176,000

In addition to the above duties, you will draft and maintain Quality Assurance Inspection Procedures for use in delegated verification inspections and product stamping activities.

What You Need R&D Engineer 1
  • Technical:
    Experience in applying engineering, scientific, and mathematical principles to the design, development, manufacturing, inspection, and/or testing of products. Advanced ability to understand, interpret, and communicate drawings and specifications.
  • Quality:
    Thorough experience in comparing quality control results against technical specifications.
  • Communication:
    Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills as evidenced by successful interaction with various levels of staff, management, stakeholders, and/or customers.
R&D Engineer 2

In addition to the above minimum requirements, the R&D Engineer 2 will:

  • Procedure Writing:
    Serve as an SME and/or procedure owner, responsible for creation, updates, and/or revisions for procedures applicable to the team/organization.
  • Product Acceptance:
    Knowledge of and experience with the NNSA product acceptance process, methods, and requirements, as well as stamping and marking processes.
Education/Experience R&D Engineer 1:

Position requires a Bachelors degree in Engineering from an accredited institution related to the occupation, combined with 2 years of related experience.

R&D Engineer 2:

Position requires a Bachelors degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 4 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar standards
  • Experience in nuclear, aerospace, or defense manufacturing
  • Exposure to regulatory or customer-driven quality compliance
  • DOE "Q" clearance (active or previously held)
Work Location

This position is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
