Operations Manager
What You Will Do
Project Leader 2:
Provide project management and coordination support for international safeguards, nuclear forensics, and in vitro bioassay programs. Oversee approximately $45M in technical programs, coordinate with technical leads, set priorities, schedule, and track deliverables for programs ranging from small, short‑duration efforts to large, ongoing projects involving 20–30 staff. Manage large, complex equipment purchases, vendor interfaces, contracts, and capital requirements. Track costs, commitments, and accruals to ensure fiscal year balance.
Project Leader 3:
In addition to all Project Leader 2 responsibilities, coordinate and oversee multiple capital construction projects expanding program capabilities. Work with technical organizations, infrastructure planning, and construction teams; estimate costs and timelines for programmatic equipment installations; oversee execution upon completion. Independently execute work with direct line management, customers, and supporting laboratory organizations.
Job Requirements
- Working knowledge and experience managing moderately large/complex technical projects.
- Ability to complete projects within approved scope, schedule, and budget, including development of project plans, work breakdown structures, work packages, and baseline documentation.
- Experience interfacing with customers and negotiating deliverables and deadlines.
- Experience in continuous process improvement focused on system development.
- Experience managing or coordinating large complex equipment procurements, vendor interactions, procurement documentation, delivery coordination, and installation activities.
- Ability to work independently with initiative.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to obtain a Q clearance (requires U.S. citizenship).
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution plus 5 years of directly related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Project Leader 3 Additional Requirements- Advanced knowledge and experience managing moderately large/complex technical projects.
- Experience working with external vendors.
- Experience integrating complex work with other priorities and commitments.
- Experience leading and coordinating multiple complex capital construction or infrastructure projects in highly regulated, technical, research, industrial, or government environments.
- Proven ability to independently interface and collaborate with project managers, engineering organizations, construction managers, facility operations, maintenance organizations, procurement personnel, subcontractors, and senior management.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direct oversight.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution plus 8 years of directly related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications- Experience interfacing with LANL support organizations.
- Experience working in a scientific setting.
Onsite in Los Alamos, NM.
