Position: Predictive Maintenance (PdM) Technology Coordinator (Engineering Technologist 3/4)

Job Overview

Predictive Maintenance (PdM) Technology Coordinator, filled at Engineering Technologist 3 or 4 level. Support the Laboratory’s PdM Program, ensuring reliability and safe operation of facility equipment across LANL.

Responsibilities

Perform PdM routes, analyze data, document results, troubleshoot equipment, develop schedules, train technicians, support reliability investigations, and comply with safety and security requirements.

Engineering Technologist 3 Responsibilities
  • Perform PdM routes on rotating, mechanical, and utility equipment.
  • Collect and analyze vibration, infrared, ultrasonic data to detect early signs of degradation.
  • Accurately document route results and communicate findings to engineers and maintenance staff.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for equipment issues identified during routes.
  • Assist in developing, optimizing, and maintaining PdM route schedules and data standards.
  • Contribute to training and mentoring of technicians on PdM technologies.
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of the Laboratory’s PdM Program.
  • Participate in reliability investigations and assist in root cause failure analysis (RCFA).
  • Ensure all activities comply with LANL safety, security, and operational requirements.
Engineering Technologist 4 Responsibilities
  • Serve as technical lead for PdM route design and optimization across multiple facilities.
  • Perform and review complex PdM routes requiring advanced diagnostic interpretation.
  • Lead implementation of new PdM technologies and integrate results into reliability systems.
  • Develop and maintain Laboratory-wide PdM standards, procedures, and performance metrics.
  • Provide expert-level analysis and guidance to facility managers, engineers, and technicians.
  • Mentor and train lower-level technologists and technicians.
  • Lead cross-functional reliability improvement initiatives and root cause analyses.
  • Represent the Laboratory’s PdM program in internal/external working groups, audits, and technical exchanges.
Qualifications
  • Predictive Maintenance

    Experience:

    Demonstrated experience performing PdM routes using vibration, infrared, and ultrasonics.
  • Vibration Analysis: Ability to collect, interpret, and trend vibration data using tools such as the CSI/Emerson Model 2140 FFT Data Collector and AMS Machinery Suite.
  • Analytical

    Skills:

    Identify equipment faults through PdM data, diagnose root causes, and communicate findings.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with mechanical and rotating equipment systems; ability to read drawings and schematics.
  • Communication &

    Collaboration:

    Work effectively with diverse technical teams, explain complex data, and contribute to maintenance planning.
  • Safety & Compliance: Perform work safely in accordance with industry standards.
  • Engineering Technologist 4 – Advanced Leadership: Design, implement, and optimize PdM routes across multiple facilities; advanced diagnostic interpretation; program development; mentorship; RCFA leadership; technical direction and presentation skills.
  • Desired

    Qualifications:

    Advanced PdM expertise, program leadership, knowledge of RCM, RCFA, condition-based maintenance, ISO standards, data management, training, certifications (CMRP, CRE, ICML, ASNT, ISO), DOE Q Clearance.
Education and Experience
  • Engineering Technologist 3:
    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology Science, Math or related, and 8 years of directly related experience.
  • Engineering Technologist 4:
    Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of directly related experience.
Essential Job Functions
  • Standing, bending, kneeling, reaching overhead, carrying and lifting 30+ pounds.
Position Details
  • Location: Onsite, Los Alamos, NM.
  • Schedule: Onsite 9/80 schedule.
