Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Responsibilities- Develop MBSE models to support urgent warfighter requirements, facilitating agile and responsive trail blazing operations.
- Risk management and systems engineering solutions to Congressional Line-Item projects that effectively manage cost and schedule constraints while ensuring requirements verification.
- Novel optimization software to simulate multiscale multiphysics engineering and materials science applications for autonomous design.
- Additive manufacturing research and development in materials, sensor embedment, and mechanical design.
Job Requirements R&D Engineer 1 ($96,600 - $158,000) Technical Expertise
- Familiarity with nuclear weapons development and design.
- Experience with one or more phases of the R&D product lifecycle, including requirements generation, validation and verification (V&V), prototyping and testing.
- Ability to analyze existing and approved requirements documentation.
- Experience supporting management of models and derived work products in accordance with project configuration management and data management processes and standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and effectively.
- Experience working effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
In addition to the outlined responsibilities at the R&D Engineer 1 level, the minimum requirements at the R&D Engineer 2 level include:
Technical Expertise- Experience with the full R&D product lifecycle, including requirements generation, validation and verification (V&V), prototyping and testing.
- Coursework or practical experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) (system model creation, usage, maintenance, execution, and analysis).
- Experience conducting walkthroughs and formal reviews of system requirements and architecture models developed using MBSE processes.
- Ability to perform detailed technical analyses of subsystems and system elements.
- Provides peer review of work products across organizations and technical disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff and peers in their technical and professional growth.

Employees are expected to maintain required safety and security training, ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures and integrate safety and security considerations into all work activities. Employees are also expected to stop work when unsafe conditions exist or when security is compromised.
Education & ExperienceLow level:
Position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution related to the occupation combined with 2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience directly related to the occupation.
High level:
Position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution and 4 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- Active DOE Q clearance.
- Experience interfacing with Department of War industry partners.
- Demonstrated expertise with using Cameo, Magic Draw, and/or Rhapsody (Cameo preferred) to develop models of system requirements, architecture/design, and interfaces.
- Ability to train others on MBSE concepts and tools and provide guidance and recommendations in related areas including development and test strategies.
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
