What You Will Do
Come join the best and brightest minds in the world at one of the most innovative and creative multidisciplinary research institutions engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The work we do at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) matters to our country and the world.
The Smart Factory & Digital Transformation Group is seeking a solutions architect to support standardization of process and data usage in support of LANL’s production mission. This position will be focused on the systems that directly support engineering work and the interfaces governing those systems’ connections with other business solutions. The solutions architect will move between solutions as each gets stood up and help develop the overall picture of IT and business process needed to support our mission.
Because of this, the position’s work scope may be understood as a blend of solution and enterprise architecture.
- Architect and maintain the engineering domain digital thread framework, including cross‑domain model policies, UAF‑based architecture model, information object catalogue, and implementation requirements. Expected major domain systems are requirements management, product lifecycle management, simulation data management, long‑term records management, MBSE connectors, and their interfaces with other business systems.
- Drive tool selection and validation by partnering with production and infrastructure teams to ensure solutions enhance production execution.
- Advance standards adoption by evaluating and implementing relevant industry standards (OSLC, QIF) that deliver value to production operations.
- Champion solution adoption by coordinating training and line organization support in using new solutions.
- Drive digital manufacturing transformation by evaluating and implementing emerging technologies (IoT, AI, data analytics, smart systems) to enhance the engineering digital thread, enable data‑driven decision‑making, and shift engineering focus from manual processes to strategic technical troubleshooting.
- Continuously monitor solution performance and identify opportunities for improvement to better meet the needs of our engineering organizations.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with LANL Design Agency and Nuclear Security Enterprise stakeholders to ensure site‑wide alignment and advocate for Nuclear Production needs.
