Operations Manager
What You Will Do
The Los Alamos National Laboratory Construction Superintendent team invites you to serve as a Superintendent 1. You will direct the sequence of work for multi‑discipline, bargaining‑unit craft workers, ensuring that facility modifications comply with engineering designs, document control, specifications, quality standards, schedules, material procurement, and budgets. You will collaborate closely with System Engineers, Construction Managers, Superintendent Leads, Project Managers and, when necessary, higher‑level Managers or Supervisors.
Your day‑to‑day responsibilities also include: investigation of abnormal events, incidents, or accidents; establishing and coordinating maintenance schedules; tracking costs against estimated budgets; and reporting changes to maintain fiscal responsibility. A flexible schedule, including days and nights, may be required.
- Direct and sequence work for multi‑discipline, unionized craft workers.
- Ensure compliance with engineering drawings, document control, specifications, quality standards, and schedules.
- Collaborate with engineering and project management teams to maintain project integrity.
- Investigate and document abnormal events, incidents or accidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Develop and coordinate maintenance schedules, managing resource, material and equipment needs.
- Track job costs, report changes, and maintain approved budgets.
- Operate a flexible schedule, including days and nights as required.
Job Requirements
- 5 years of relevant experience, or 3 years of nuclear experience with a High School Diploma (or equivalent academic training replacing the nuclear experience as specified by DOE Order 426.2).
- Demonstrated technical leadership ability in a unionized labor environment.
- Experience with facility maintenance and/or construction management, including systems engineering design, safety/authorization basis, configuration management, work control and facility control systems.
- Strong knowledge of safety practices, lock‑out/tag‑out procedures, and the ability to interpret blueprints, drawings and schematics.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including preparation and presentation of reports.
- Proficiency in a computerized work‑management system for tracking job activities and coordinating materials and equipment with vendors.
- U.S. citizenship required for Q clearance; eligibility for a Q clearance is a statutory prerequisite for this position.
- Working knowledge of LANL Zero‑Accident Safety programs or comparable industry programs.
- Experience performing construction modifications in nuclear or other highly complex, hazardous operations.
- Walking, climbing stairs, kneeling, and balancing.
On‑site indoor/outdoor conditions typical of a research laboratory setting.
Work Location & TermsThe position is located on‑site in Los Alamos, NM and is part of Technical Area 55. It is a term appointment with a duration up to ten (10) years and requires a one‑year continuous service commitment for regular appointment employees. Term employees may be converted to regular status at management discretion.

This position requires a Q clearance. Clearance is obtained through a federal background investigation and is limited to U.S. citizens (with rare exceptions). The position may also require additional security authorizations depending on the nature of the work.
