Development and Fabrication Tec 3$66,100 - $103,600
The Detonation Science and Technology (Q-6) group seeks an individual to provide technical support specifically in electrical design, fabrication, and assembly of components used in research and development experiments.
Responsibilities include:
agile response to prototyping requests; manufacture of complex parts from a variety of materials with exacting tolerances; collaborative planning of prototype designs; fabrication and assembly independently and as part of a team; and integration of components into experiments across DOE facilities.
$72,800 - $115,400
In addition to the responsibilities outlined at the lower level, the Tec 4 will contribute to the development of new procedures and protocols, and recommend solutions to problems affecting project requirements.
The Detonation Science and Technology Group serves the Laboratory and the Nation providing the knowledge base and component design responsibilities for the Nuclear Weapons Program and other critical national security areas. Capabilities include design engineering for nuclear weapon detonators, detonator cable assemblies, fabrication, qualification, and installation of test fire control systems, pulse power engineering, advanced detonator design and testing, and applied problem solving.

Job Requirements
- Manufacturing Experience – design and manufacturing of parts, fixturing, and electrical assemblies.
- Electrical Fabrication Skills – assembly, testing, inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical circuits and electronics.
- Schematics – fully proficient knowledge of engineering drawings and electrical schematics.
- Communication Skills – strong oral and written communication.
- Research & R&D Skills – problem solving R&D solutions from design to fabrication.
- Electrical Manufacturing Experience – electrical board and additive manufacturing.
- Electrical Fabrication Skills – extensive experience in assembly, testing, inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of printed wire assemblies.
- Software Knowledge – CAD/CAM.
Development and Fabrication Tec 3:
Associate’s Degree and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Development and Fabrication Tec 4:
Associate’s Degree and 5 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Printed Circuit Board fabrication training/certificates
- High explosives handler qualification
- Soldering, welding, mechanical fabrication experience
- Essential Job Functions – ability to speak, reading vision
