Position: Science/Engineering Project Leader 1/2

What You Will Do

The DP‑5 Production Integration Group is seeking a Science/Engineering Project Leader to support the Detonator Production Enterprise. The Project Leader Team plans and coordinates manufacturing readiness activities to ensure the timely delivery of the highest quality detonation products and services to our customers. In this role, you will translate programmatic requirements into executable shop‑floor plans and coordinate cross‑functional production activities to ensure safe, secure, and timely execution.

You will work closely with manufacturing, engineering, quality, safety, and program management organizations to drive alignment between production commitments and operational capability.

Science/Engineering Project Leader 1 (87 800–143 000)

Under guidance from senior leaders, you will:

  • Develop integrated project plans and schedules supporting manufacturing readiness and production execution.
  • Build work breakdown structures and define executable work packages for production organizations.
  • Coordinate activities across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program teams.
  • Monitor scope, schedule, and production deliverables to ensure commitments are met.
  • Identify risks to production readiness and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Support execution reviews and communicate project status to stakeholders.
  • Ensure activities are aligned with safety, security, and quality requirements.
Science/Engineering Project Leader 2 (106 400–176 000)

In addition to the responsibilities of the lower level, the Science/Engineering Project Leader 2 independently manages moderately complex manufacturing readiness and production integration efforts with limited direction. At this level, you will:

  • Lead integrated production readiness efforts across multiple organizations.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive execution plans tied to programmatic deliverables.
  • Coordinate directly with program managers and line organizations to align scope, resources, and production schedules.
  • Oversee mid‑sized cross‑functional teams supporting production execution.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned production integration efforts.
  • Proactively identify production risks, resource constraints, and schedule impacts, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Integrate production activities with broader enterprise priorities and customer commitments.
Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute project plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages.
  • Experience managing scope, schedule, and deliverables in a production or technical environment.
  • Knowledge of engineering or manufacturing principles.
  • Strong interpersonal and coordination skills, with ability to build relationships across organizations.
  • Experience working with cross‑functional teams.
  • Understanding of safety, security, and quality requirements in a regulated environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance, which typically requires U.S. citizenship.
Additional Requirements for Science/Engineering Project Leader 2
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage moderately complex technical or production projects.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional teams in a manufacturing or operations environment.
  • Advanced understanding of project management methodologies and change control.
  • Proven ability to negotiate scope, priorities, and resources across organizations.
  • Experience identifying production or readiness risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
Education and Experience at Science/Engineering Project Leader 1

Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering related field from an accredited institution and 2 years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education and Experience at Science/Engineering Project Leader 2

Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering related field from an accredited institution and 5 years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. An advanced degree is typically expected.
