What You Will Do
What you will manage:
- Chief Engineer for LANL Nuclear Facilities in the Engineering Services Division portfolio.
- Implement and mature Conduct of Engineering, Cognizant System Engineering, and Configuration Management programs for nuclear facilities.
- Provide nuclear design‑engineering services to ensure facilities are designed, constructed, modified, and maintained to satisfy customer needs and expectations in a cost‑effective, safe, and compliant manner.
- Offer design and project engineering resources across nuclear, radiological, high hazard, moderate hazard, laboratory, computing, office, and utility facilities.
- Provide a range of engineering services, including project, procurement, and field engineering, to support project execution and ongoing nuclear facility operations and maintenance.
- Lead the development and control of nuclear facility technical baselines, disciplined nuclear safety basis implementation, and performance assessment.
- Communicate with all internal and external customers to define and recommend cross‑organizational operational objectives, develop short‑term and long‑range plans, and monitor progress to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Maintain daily open communication with workers (including subcontractors) to promote an environment where errors, system weaknesses, and issues are brought to management attention.
- Perform design review of external agency design submittals for nuclear, radiological, high hazard, moderate hazard, laboratory, computing, office, and utility facilities.
- Report directly to the Senior Director under ALDFO.
As a Nuclear Facilities Engineering Manager 6, you will provide operations and strategic direction, ensuring compliance with nuclear facility requirements, Conduct of Engineering (CoE), and configuration management (CM) program requirements. You will oversee design, field, procurement, project, and discipline engineering personnel to comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and standards, and provide leadership in resolving technical and personnel issues.
Additionally, you will develop staffing plans, perform recruiting and hiring activities, and develop staff through training, mentoring, and qualification programs.
What You Need MinimumJob Requirements
- Leadership experience in managing a large engineering organization.
- Expertise in engineering and administration for facility projects and ongoing operations and maintenance within nuclear and non‑nuclear industries.
- Record of leading technical organizations in support of nuclear facilities, including operations, maintenance, systems engineering, safety basis, and projects.
- Experience interfacing with contractor management, NNSA/DOE staff, DNFSB staff, board members, and public members.
- Success in developing internal and external customer relationships and resolving conflicts.
- Budget development and management experience.
- Experience developing and implementing in‑house engineering standards, master specifications, and Conduct of Engineering for facility operations and maintenance.
- Significant management experience related to the above responsibilities.
Education/
Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited institution plus 15 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- Extensive knowledge of LANL activities and nuclear operations, including project execution and management, legal, procurement, construction, environmental safety and health (ES&H), and quality assurance.
- Knowledge/experience of LANL Engineering Standards Manual, LANL Conduct of Engineering procedures, and DOE Orders and Standards related to nuclear facility design, construction, and project management.
- Professional license (PE) in an engineering discipline preferred.
The work location is onsite in Los Alamos, NM.
