Waste Management Manager

Tech2 Solutions (T2S), a Tetra Tech–Sealaska Joint Venture, is a critical subcontractor to N3B Los Alamos LLC, providing program management and technical services in support of the Groundwater and Surface Water Monitoring Program at the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The program supports environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance, and groundwater and surface water investigations associated with the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract (LLCC).

T2S is a full-service engineering and environmental consulting company with worldwide expertise in environmental monitoring and remediation, national security, systems engineering, and data management and analytics for federal and commercial clients.

T2S is adding an experienced Waste Management Manager to support the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract (LLCC) at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA) Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

The successful candidate will oversee waste management activities associated with groundwater sampling, surface water monitoring, drilling, and well rehabilitation/maintenance operations. This position is responsible for waste characterization, regulatory compliance, inventory management, waste disposition planning, and coordination with project personnel to ensure waste is managed safely and in accordance with applicable federal, state, DOE, and LANL requirements.

The Waste Management Manager will serve as a key resource for waste management strategy, regulatory compliance, and technical guidance while supporting field operations throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage waste identification, characterization, storage, packaging, transportation, and disposal activities associated with drilling, groundwater sampling, and well maintenance operations.
  • Develop and implement waste management procedures and guidance to ensure compliance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) requirements, DOE regulations, permit conditions, and company policies.
  • Review operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable waste management regulations and permit requirements.
  • Plan and execute waste characterization sampling activities.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding management of hazardous, radioactive, mixed, TSCA, New Mexico Special Waste, and other regulated waste streams.
  • Conduct waste site inspections, operational assessments, and compliance audits, recommending corrective actions as needed.
  • Support internal and external regulatory audits.

Inventory & Waste Tracking:

  • Maintain and update daily purge water inventory within the Environmental Information Management System (EIMS).
  • Track poly tank inventories, storage locations, and status changes.
  • Prepare inventory reports and waste disposition documentation.
  • Develop preliminary waste determinations and prepare data packages supporting final waste disposition approvals.
  • Enter and maintain waste information within LANL's Waste Compliance and Tracking System (WCATS) or equivalent waste management systems.
  • Maintain drilling program waste inventory spreadsheets and supporting documentation.

Project Coordination:

  • Interface with project managers, field personnel, environmental staff, and the LANL Waste Management Team to ensure waste disposition strategies are developed prior to waste generation.
  • Coordinate procurement, deployment, and management of waste storage equipment, including frac tanks, poly tanks, totes, and drums.
  • Support field work planning and preparation of waste management reports.
  • Communicate technical requirements and provide waste management training to project personnel.

Professional Standards & Safety:

  • Conduct all activities in accordance with company procedures, DOE requirements, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and report health and safety concerns promptly.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable waste management regulations and industry developments.
